It's been a very long time since I offered a Mexican clamper bracelet and I am happy to be starting again with a classic Taxco design, this repousse and shadowbox "Quetzalcoatl" example. The maestro who signs it I am familiar with - he worked in Taxco and it seems that clamper bracelets were one of his favorite forms...

This fine brooch can also be worn as a pendant. It features a large/bold green chalcedony, Aztec mask, set in decorative sterling silver. The back is marked HECHO EN MEXICO STERLING 925 (with a space then a letter after the 5). It is stamped with the assay mark with 28 in the middle (sometimes used by Bernice Goodspeed). This handmade ring features a substantial domed top of cross-hatched openwork and an adjustable band. It dates around 1960-1970, and bears the marks of husband and wife designers Else Berntsen Hughes and Paul Hughes, including the H mark for their workshop, Studio Else and Paul. The ring is sized approximately 4 ½-5 and can be adjusted slightly larger by a competent jeweler. Weight: 10.5 grams

This Los Castillo design 262 is an early one created when Margot Van Voorhies was married to Don Antonio Castillo. I believe these early pieces are the very best of her work. Stunning in size with an almost 2 inches of height and a weight of 84 grams of almost pure 980 silver. The condition reflects no damage and also well cared for over time. The diameter is 2.25 inches with the gap set at 1in. This can be professionally adjusted for most to fit. One of the best from the Spratling Era.

Today we are offering from the taller of Margot de Taxco a large floral necklace and matching bracelet. This design 5488 comes in two sizes with this being the larger example at 1.25in. tall. The repousse is thick silver and both pieces have a combined weight of 115 grams. The bracelet is 7in. long and it will hook into the necklace for a long chain. The necklace is 18in. long. Both are properly hallmarked as shown. Without dents or any type of damage just LOOK AT THAT NECKLACE!

A beautiful demi-parure consisting of a matching necklace and bracelet in gold washed silver with very big faceted opaline glass stones, prong set, and bezel set in the center of the necklace. Marked SILVER. Circa 1900 - 1920. Possibly French. A very unusual design, and I have never had opaline stones this big before. They have fabulous pink and blue tones which are not completely captured in the photos.

A clever design composed of three forged wires terminating in curls at each end. The bracelet is handmade and quite sturdy. It bears a mark inside one curl of a three-lobed cypher and STG, possibly for sterling. The metal shows a very strong test for silver. This handmade wide band ring features a random design of molten drops on a textured surface. The irregular band shape has an upturned edge along the top, where the opposite edge comes to a rounded point. It bears the post-1967 Italian mark for silver, hallmarked for the city of Siena; the hallmark is double-struck, so the maker's number could read 722, 712 or something similar...

Twin fish necklace in amethyst and brass signed MAYA MEXICO after a design first introduced by Hubert Harmon (c.1940-50). This necklace will comfortably fit up to a 15 inch neck. The two fish and amethyst drop measure 5 1/2 inches across. Both fish have an amethyst eye and a faceted amethyst stone extending from their tail. A single amethyst cab hangs between the 2 fish. Each brass chain measures 5 1/2 inches.

Wonderfully designed cuff bracelet by Henry Steig, a well known Modernist jewelry designer working in New York City in the 1950s. In 1950 he opened a New York City shop at 51st and First, and a summer store in Provincetown, Massachusetts. In 1955 he moved his NYC shop to 52nd and Lexington.
