Meticulously worked and perfectly finished this antique silver repousse cuff bracelet is obviously of Asian origin but I am not quite sure of its exact provenance. I don’t profess any kind of deeper knowledge in the world of Asian jewelry and the existence of cross-pollination and diasporic artisan communities throughout the region (the Indian and Chinese being prominent among them) make its identification a challenge for me...

Made in the 1960s, this vintage Mexican sterling silver bracelet consists of figural disks developing in a row defined by lengths of double-woven, thick chain. I have seen this combination featuring three different kinds of disk designs. While here we have depictions of the country's history as well as symbols of its old religion (a jaguar warrior portrait, Quetzalcoatl, Mexico's state Eagle) the specific bracelet design can be found with Mexican coins or representations of the zodiac cycle...

Silver dragon head pin copying that of William Spratling by Serafin Moctezuma, Mexico, c.1950's. Much to the annoyance of Spratling, Moctezuma copied his designs, including the mark "SM", which when turned upside down, looks like a stylized WS, similar to that of Spratling. This great little Mayan dragon head, stands on its own and is quite charming. The pin measures 1 3/8" long by 1" wide. It is signed "980 SM TAXCO" and is in excellent condition. Composed of four rectangular textured panels that are curved to fit comfortably around the wrist. This bracelet features an oxidized, textured surface with an unfinished look often associated with hand-crafted jewelry and at times, brutalist design.
