A classic Mexican Deco design the "caviar" can be found in all forms, in all gauges of sterling, with or without stones, signed by as famous a name as Spratling or simply anonymous like the sweet version of it I am presenting here. Composed of curved openwork panels formed as highly stylized bird heads, possibly eagles, with a pre-Columbian influence. The tongue-and-groove clasp is original and very secure for this substantial bracelet. It is bears the circular mark for Pedro Castillo, who worked for Spratling and Aguilar in the 1930s and started his own taller in the 1940s (per Bille Hougart’s ‘Little Book’ of Mexican silver marks, p. 41)...

Though it is not uncommon to find Mexican silver fur pins, it is usually single pieces that are available. Here, however, there is a pair bearing the signature of the Los Castillo in a “bow and flower” design. I am not sure if the workshop ever made a whole parure available in this specific design - I have had the small bow necklace / bracelet sets in the past but this is an enhanced version, with more elements added to the bow and the bow itself bigger and fancier...

Dating in the 1940s, this massive sterling silver and azur-malachite "mozaico Azteca" inlay pendant necklace is signed by Taxco maestro Jose Anton. I am more used to Anton's repousse work yet from time to time, I do come across some examples that feature overlay and, as in this case, stone inlay. What impresses me here is, of course, the generously sized pendant with its "warrior" silver inlay in profile as well as the detail of the eagle figure floating in the air next to it...

A fabulous example of Taxco modernism by Los Ballesteros, this vintage Mexican silver and amethyst bracelet is as beautiful to look at as it is comfortable to wear. A couple of days ago I presented another creation by the same workshop and I will suggest that the two pieces are representative of their line of medium-width modernist link bracelets...
