This bold bracelet, probably American, has a modern sensibility that belies its ca. 1890 origins. It is composed of a polished hollow sterling silver curb chain with a sterling heart-shaped padlock closure. This padlock has no key but can be opened simply by a gentle tug on the lever mechanism and a gentle push to close. The chain has no marks (though tests for sterling); the top of the padlock indicates sterling, which suggests an American origin...
This Beautiful belt buckle is made entirely of Mid-Victorian Hand-Carved Whitby Jet.
The Brooch is deeply carved with leaves and flower blooms – in great detail.
Today it is illegal to mine jet in Whitby because the only jet left is in seams in the walls of the cliffs over the town. To remove it from the cliffs would cause them to tumble down and destroy the town. The two remaining jet
cutters today have to rely on pieces that wash up on the beaches of this seacoast town...

Weighing 53 grams, the inner diameter (closed) is just shy of 2-1/4" and the piece is 7/8" wide. Remnants of polish. The photos make the turquoise appear green but it is blue with a hint of green.

Sweet, romantic and so appropriate for the time of year, this vintage Mexican silver "row of hearts" bracelet bears the signature of the Los Castillo workshop and is crafted using the "mozaico Azteca" technique. Even though Los Castillo "mozaico" jewelry can be found with abalone inlay as well, it is primarily the saturated, gorgeous greens and deep, rich blues of azur-malachite one expects to see in creations from this line. The bracelet at hand, carefully and ... lovingly hand-wrought, has lit...
