This is a study in pencil by FERNAND LUNGREN (1859-1932) for an oil landscape of arid desert mountains of the American west. It measures 8" by 10 1/2". There's a mat but the work is not framed. This is a subtle work that is best viewed in person; it's very, very hard to photograph. The artist has made notations like "shaddow" (spelled like that), "all golden in warm sun", and "warm rosy gray".........showing the creative process...

Very old small pencil drawing of a town scene, 3 1/2" by 3 5/8" (11 1/2" by 10" framed), unsigned, and the artist and origin unknown. It is simply an antique drawing. Someone thought enough of it to have a hand-drawn ornate mat on gray-blue paper. A church tower appears at center and a tree at left, and two tiny figures at lower right. There is a mysterious red circle stamped on the reverse; difficult to say if it may be a collector's stamp.

Pencil on paper drawing of two men who appear to be having a serious disagreement, the top hatted figure at left about to swing his cane into the other, all while a woman in bonnet watches from rear left in horror. It's a whimsical, humorous piece, measuring 8 3/4" by 7 1/4" inside the mat, 16" by 15" framed. The paper is very thin and delicate, and has acquired a few noticeable folds and creases in its more than 150 years, as shown. The paper is NOT laid down...

This is a charcoal with white highlights fine original drawing of a male head on a plinth, the head appearing as would a Greek or Roman marble sculpture. The work, 16 1/4" by 12" (22" by 18" framed), is signed at bottom by the Austrian artist RUDOLF ZELENKA (1875-1938) and is dated nearby 1894. The drawing would likely be an academic study by the artist at age 19, while receiving art education...

Circa 18th century ink on paper European drawing, 11 1/4" by 16 1/2" inside the inner framing enclosure, 24 1/2" by 29 1/2" as framed, the subject a coastal village with small boat landing, the tiny figures going about their lives on shore and in the boats, and a classic old sailing ship just making it into the image at left, signed in the lower left corner "Jac. A__". The drawing is on laid paper that was laid down on a board...

Black ink on paper drawing, 8 1/4" by 10 1/2", unframed, signed in the center of the image and dated in the image at lower left center "7 26 1999", and titled in the lower margin "TRUCK PLATE", by the noted contemporary sculptor, ceramicist, designer and painter PETER SHIRE (1947-). This complex modern drawing is imaginative, colorful, three dimensional, and whimsical, and could only have been created by a true artist...

Pencil drawing on paper, 4 1/4" square inside the mat, 9 1/4" by 9 1/4" as framed, signed at lower right "Luce", the subject an elderly man at left and elderly woman at right, both reading a letter or periodical. The paper is browned with age, though, evenly, and there's a small crown-shaped stain that looks like an ink blot, irregularly shaped, at lower right. The work is affixed to a board on which is written in old hand "No. 20"...

Three drawings in pencil on gray-blue paper, each 7 1/2" by 12" approximately inside the mat, all of coastal scenes with multiple figures, sailing ships and even dogs and donkeys. Two are signed with the "W C" initials and are dated Nov. 1866; the third one with conjoined initials is titled "Falmouth" (a city in Cornwall, on the southwest coast of England) and is dated 12 June 1867...

An ORIGINAL mixed media color caricature drawing of iconic entertainer Madonna, 6 1/4" by 8 1/2" (11" by 13" in present silvery framing), signed at lower right by the obviously highly talented contemporary artist who goes by the fashionably anonymous moniker "14". The work is in pencil, gouache, and color crayon. Madonna is shown with colored blonde hair that extends out quite too far on both sides, and there is the suggestion of her being less-than-young...

A vintage drawing in brown and sepia colored pencil, featuring the ruins of the historic old Tumacacori Mission between Tucson and Nogales, Arizona, signed "Marjorie Hardaway", titled and dated 1946. The work is by a talented artist of the day who appears to be not recorded. The mission on the Santa Cruz River was started by the Spanish in the late 1700's and by the early years of the 19th century had already been replaced and enlarged...

Pencil on paper drawing of a southern-style house with large tree and foreground dog, dated 1967 lower right, 5" by 6 3/4", 13" by 15" framed, by the well listed Louisiana artist ROLLAND HARVE GOLDEN (1931-2019). The dog resembles an ancient breed of dog, such as would be seen in a museum of Egyptian sculptural antiquities--perhaps, the pet of a pharaoh. The juxtaposition of the dog in front of the typical and familiar southern architecture is in keeping with Golden's self-described "borderlin...

A brown ink drawing of two standing men in conversation, signed at lower right in Hebrew script. A Hebrew reader tells me the signature could read "Yashkovsky" or "Shaikovsky" or similar. The work measures 8" by 6" (15 1/4" by 13" framed). The drawing was likely executed circa 1960's to 1980. A simple work which demonstrates the skill of the draftsman.
