A pastel of the river Seine in Paris with the top of a building in the distance over leafy trees and a barge passing through the arch of a bridge by the American born Louis Orr who spent much of his life in Paris. This in a nice example of his work in a new mat and frame. Sight size of pastel 12 by 16 inches (30 by 40 cm) frame size 19 3/8 by 23 3/8 inches (49 by 59 cm).

Condition: Excellent with acid free mat and backing.

Very old small pencil drawing of a town scene, 3 1/2" by 3 5/8" (11 1/2" by 10" framed), unsigned, and the artist and origin unknown. It is simply an antique drawing. Someone thought enough of it to have a hand-drawn ornate mat on gray-blue paper. A church tower appears at center and a tree at left, and two tiny figures at lower right. There is a mysterious red circle stamped on the reverse; difficult to say if it may be a collector's stamp.

Female nude figure executed in white chalk on black paper, 25" by 18 3/4", signed at lower right "Mondrus", unframed. The artist is associated with California, having been a familiar figure in the Los Angeles/Pasadena art scene for many years. He is still active as a teacher and juror of art competitions. PAIR of pencil drawings, one titled "The Customs House London" (1820) and the other a botanical still life, both bearing the original auction stickers and labels from the Sotheby's London sale of October 9, 1996. The Customs House work measures 10 1/2" by 7 7/8" inside the mat. It is signed "By Thom. S. Boys" at lower left and titled "The Custom House London 1820" at right...

PAIR of drawings, one in pencil, consisting of two sketches of apparently the same figure, from varying angles (11 1/2" by 8 1/4"), the other in red chalk, of a nude model (15 1/2" by 11 3/4"). Both are signed by noted California artist BEN CARRE (1883-1978) and are identically framed (23 1/2" by 19 1/2"). Carre was born in Paris and was an early set painter for the Paris Opera, Comedie Francaise, and Covent Garden...

An original ink drawing of a 19th century sailing ship, signed at lower right and dated 1970/Old Lahaina by artist WILLIAM SELLERS. I have not located much information on the artist, but see that pencil signed prints of some of his imagery were evidently distributed. This is definitely an original work; careful inspection shows his guiding pencil lines...

PAIR OF signed ink drawings with pencil underneath, each 7 1/2" by 6 1/2" and 13 1/2" by 11 1/2" as identically framed, the subjects famous clipper ships of the 19th century "Gamecock" and "Cutty Sark", each bearing a signature at lower right that could be interpreted as a "G" inside a square. Found in Maine, and said to have come from a Kennebunkport home, the artist who created the drawings might remain a mystery...

Condition: paper laid on cardboard, edges fraying and some fading. It is likely that this is a drawing used in Modigliani's studio and that the Paul is Paul Alexander Modigliani’s Physician.
