An antique 19th-century Russian Orthodox icon depicts the most central event in Christianity, the Nativity of our Lord Christ.

The icon is finely hand-painted in bright colors and gold on gesso on a wood panel. It depicts Baby Jesus laying in the cradle in a manger wrapped in swaddling clothes, with a Bethlehem star shining from above, flanked by the Virgin Mary and St Joseph.

The upper left part is painted with three kings on horseback traveling in search of Jesus...

The work measures 16" by 20" and is housed in a nice quality frame, measuring 23" by 27". Painting and frame are both in excellent condition.
