An oil on mahogany panel of a Claudian landscape with trees to the far left above figures approaching a river, while figures on the opposite side stand beneath a rise in the landscape with mountains in the distance under a cloudy sky. The composition and manner suggest a late painting by the Scottish Alexander Nasmyth (1758-1840) or possibly his eldest son Patrick Nasmyth (1787-1831), though the brush strokes are looser than usual for either. 8 11/16 x10 ¾ with margin, 7 1/8 x 10 1/8 w/out...

Small "cabin art" painting of a lake landscape, of a type painted from about the 1930's through 1950's, framed in rough wood with some gilt remaining. The painting, 8 1/2" by 13" framed, has a rustic feel that will make it an excellent addition to a small wall in your lake or mountain hideout.
A well-painted oil on canvas, 19 3/4" by 11 1/2", unframed, UNSIGNED, featuring a rivulet-type small waterfall deep in the forest, emptying into a foreground pool. The name "H. D. MARTIN" is written in a late hand on the reverse side of the RELINED canvas, and then it appears there was an attempt to rub that out. The canvas has been laid on another quality canvas, relined, in decades not that far in the past. The tacking edges are gone on all sides...
Oil on canvas painting of a classic red barn in Alaska's Matanuska Valley near Anchorage, signed at lower left by artist Ted Goldstone and dated 3/69 and titled on stretcher. The Matanuska Valley is known as Alaska's prime agricultural area. The long hours of daylight in summer have produced record cabbages, among other produce. The high surrounding mountains remind one that one is in Alaska and not the Midwest. The art measures 16" by 12".
An old oil on wood panel painting of a peaceful stream running through a wooded area, unsigned, 9 1/4" by 13", unframed. The work is obviously by a talented hand, probably a listed artist had he/she signed it. The oval artist's materials stamp on reverse of panel and the work itself suggests a date of circa 1900, maybe 1910. The oil needs some attention from a restorer to fully expose its original beauty...
Alfred Hair (American, 1941-1970) was an early Florida Highwaymen painter. This large painting depicts two leaning palm trees just above a beach with two high tide lines of debris, curling waves and seagulls all under a sunny but partially cloudy sky. Signed, “A. Hair” lower left. The painting is 24 ¼ x 36 ¼ inches. The apparently original frame is 29 ½ x 41 ½ inches. Painted on panel (Upson board).
Condition: Excellent...
(ONE OF SEVERAL BY MERRIAM IN MY SHOP) An oil on canvas, 25" by 30" (28" by 33" framed), the subject a California mountain in late afternoon light, feathery eucalyptus at left, the painting signed at lower left by the talented California painter JAMES MERRIAM (1880-1951). This example is very typical of the artist's work. Merriam was born in Canada and was studying in Detroit, before arriving in Southern California...
Oil on very thin canvas, 11 1/2" by 17 1/2" (17" by 23" in vintage frame), the subject given as "Smoke Tree" in pencil on reverse paper, signed at lower left corner "Haydock". This is apparently a work of an MARGUERITE HAYDOCK, listed in Hughes' Dictionary of California Artists (where the artist is described as "active in Yosemite in 1931"...
Small oil on canvas (9" by 6 1/2", 13"by 10" framed), laid on plywood panel painting of a dark green mountainside, some autumn leaves beginning to appear on two spindly trees, apparently unsigned, circa late 19th century. The painting probably dates to about 1880 but has been laid on the plywood in recent decades (some waxy drips on the plywood as seen). There is some craquelure with a few pinpoint losses. I have searched in vain for any hint as to who the artist might have been...
Oil or acrylic on canvasboard abstract painting, larger size at 29" by 41" as framed, signed at lower right "KAYE". I am reminded of some of the works of Kandinsky or perhaps several of the Russian early 20th century avant-garde and Constructivism artists, such as Ivan Kliun, Mikhail Larionov, Kazimir Malevich, Alexandra Exter, and El Lissitsky...
A still life oil on canvas featuring red roses on a table top, 12" by 18" (" by " framed), signed on the reverse and dated there 1901 by Massachusetts artist of the famous Fall River School, BRYANT CHAPIN (1859-1927). Chapin's still life works of fruit, his specialty, have auctioned into five figures. The artist was born in Fall River and spent his life there, becoming a prominent member of the art colony. This example, found in Maine, is a beautiful example of the artist's work...
ORIGINAL work, not a print as is commonly seen, 13 1/4" by 19", 19" by 25" as framed, signed at lower left in white by the noted Croatian or Yugoslavian naive folk painter JOVAN OBICAN (1918-1986). This is a typical painting by the artist, featuring a number of traditionally dressed male and figures, engaging in native folk dancing. The artist was born in Cannes, France to Yugoslavian parents, and at mid century had become quite an international sensation, selling to tourists and the famous alik...
Oil on canvas seascape of waves breaking on the beach, 24" by 48" (32" by 56" framed), signed at lower right by the noted California artist WILLIAM BLACKMAN (1930-). This is a beautifully painted work by an artist known for this kind of material. Blackman was born in San Diego and began showing artistic promise at an early age. After some years in the commercial side of the business, a chance encounter in 1964 with an executive of the Aaron Brothers art supply chain resulted in a mutually rew...
Striking modern painting on masonite panel, signed on the reverse "Kalamaras --72", likely tempera, the image difficult to describe: the viewer appears to be looking out of a green-framed two pane window at a neighboring house with reddish wall, sloping roof line, and a wooden-looking door-like window.......well, it IS difficult to describe. The work measures 19 1/2" by 15 1/2" inside the frame; inside the green outlines of the "window" the size is 14" by 9 3/4". This is by California contemp...
Oil on canvas classic western landscape in early autumn, 22" by 28", unframed, signed at lower right in red "Claudine Morrow". This is a poetic scene, likely New Mexico's Taos Mountain in the distance including two horses, poplars, a shallow deep blue river, and wind shredded clouds over the high west. The artist, born in 1931, is listed in the comprehensive Contemporary Western Artists by Samuels. Her biography there says she was born in Kansas and moved to Arizona. Morrow lived all over th...
