As the images of the reverse labels show, the artist was apparently misidentified by previous owners, including the Brand Library in Glendale, California. He made study tours to Italy (1886), Paris (1893), The Balkans (1920) and Sweden (1920) and several other places, and received the Raben-Levetzau scholarship in 1894...

His paintings sell for up to $125,000 and his work is in museums.
