Oil on canvas, 12" by 18" (15" by 21" as framed), the subject a subtly rendered impressionist scene of large trees by a wide river, with just scant human activity present in the form of a few figures in a tiny boat in the middle distance, and a structure on the far shore. Executed in a silvery, cool palette of grays, tans and greens, this is a typical work of the well listed Scottish artist ROBERT RUSSELL MACNEE (1880-1952)...

This dated 1848 portrait is believed to be of David Schofield Painter, who was William Bell Scott's brother-in-law. The condition of this oil on canvas is not good. A great deal of this painting has been reworked!!

"The British Count" Oil on canvas, 25" x 30" unframed Jonathan Pratt was a Midlands artist working in Birmingham. He was an extremely diverse artist painting genre, figure and portraits, as well as street scenes, rural and coastal views in Britain, France and Algiers. He studied in Birmingham and exhibited a total of 279 works there between 1864-1915, the latter being posthumously exhibited...

A charming antique oil on canvas of a young girl cozied up in a doghouse with a snoozing bull mastiff dog, signed (incised in the paint) and dated 79 (1879). The signature is JH SHARP in capital letters. For a number of years there has been confusion as to whether these 19th century dog paintings of this period were by the noted Taos, New Mexico artist Joseph Henry Sharp (1859-1953), as the signatures are very similar indeed, and the artist did study in Europe before coming to America...

Dimensions; 17" x 11"; framed, 23" x 17". Excellent condition. Exhibited at the Stirling Fine Art Exhibition, and at the Smith Institute in Stirling, Scotland.

Oil on canvas painting of a coastal village in England, 14" by 24" (20 1/2" by 30 1/2" as nicely framed in mid 20th century gold frame), signed at lower left "W. Thornbury". This work is by a prolific (over 1,000 works in the auction record), talented, well listed, English artist who was active in the second half of the nineteenth century, WILLIAM THORNLEY (approximate birth date 1830, death date circa 1898 though I have seen online that he was active through 1903)...

"On The Terrace" oil on board, site size 10 3/8" x 6 3/8" \ frame size 19.5" x 15.25" Breakspeare lived in Edgbaston, Birmingham until the age of 22...

This could be an image of "Highland Mary" Campbell, to whom Scottish poet Robert Burns had a romantic attachment in the 1780's...

A 19th century English oil on canvas painting, 23" by 36", (offered unframed, even if the inappropriate style frame shows in the images), apparently unsigned, the subject the Edinburgh to London Royal Mail coach pulled by four horses, as it passes through a town. The work is in the style made famous by English artist Charles Cooper Henderson (1803-1877). The handsome coach, staffed by two coachmen, is shown in considerable detail...
