Oil on canvasboard painting of gulls flying above the waves, the stern of a boat at left, 12" by 16", (17" by 21 1/2" framed), signed in ink on reverse ("Painted by Edith Fite"/XXX Magee 1951"). The scene reminds of how hungry gulls loyally follow the back end of a fishing boat. I have not located information on the artist. The painting could well benefit from a cleaning after about 70 years.

A contemporary American painting of a tabby cat next to a vase with flowers, 13 1/2" by 10 3/4" (16" by 13" in white frame), signed at lower right RS and dated there 2008. The artist was a talented amateur but he/she has created an attractive and coordinated scene in black, white, gray and blue. The frame has some smudges that come off with some rubbing and there are a few corner chips.

Circa 1940's oil on canvas floral still life painting, 24" by 30", signed at lower right Helen Hayes. This is a competently painted work that has seen some neglect. Sold in as-is condition, since the bottom roughly five inches, as shown in the photos, has significant pinpoint losses. Each is small but the overall effect is almost as if someone dipped the painting in water, leaving a "bathtub ring". Study the photos carefully...

A contemporary painting of roses, painted in a highly impressionistic manner, with palette knife applying generous amounts of paint, giving the painted areas a three dimensional look, signed illegibly at lower right. The piece measures 10" by 8" (19" by 16 1/2" in attractive, complementary silvery framing). Both painting and frame are in excellent condition.

Oil on canvas painting of pinkish flowers in a clay pot against a blue drape, unsigned, circa 1950's/early 1960's, 20" by 16" (22" by 18" in simple wood frame). The work was found in Virginia. Obviously by a trained artist. Note the shadows cast at left---well handled. Condition is excellent. There is a very small disturbed area on frame at top.

Oil on gray art board painting of a pretty lake surrounded by trees, houses on the distant shore, signed at lower left in ink "F. C. Hawkes" or similar, probably circa 1935. There does not seem to be a listed artist name that would correspond, but the painting stands on its own. It is quite dirty so a cleaning and a fresh frame would be transformative. There is a diagonal crack to extreme upper left corner...

PAIR of unframed 12" by 9" oil on canvas paintings of colorful hanging flower baskets on traditional-style porches, each signed by artist Jan Beri. Found in Southern California. Add standard size easy to find frames and you can place these on a small wall in need of color. Nicely done paintings by a contemporary artist of talent.

A scene of a lady in a sunny southern European street, likely Italy or maybe Spain, she shown filling vessels with water at the town fountain. The painting is signed at lower right "Golthamer", dated there 1962, and humorously titled "H2O" at bottom. Online research has revealed the oil on canvasboard painting is by one Charles R. Golthamer (1896-1963), a prominent mid-century Los Angeles radiologist who co-authored textbooks on the anatomy of the human skull...

This is an appealing little sketch, oil on board of a landscape with a line of trees, a tawny field, a few structures and an extensive view beyond, unsigned, circa 1940's or 1950's. It is obviously by a talented artist who failed to sign his or her name. Perhaps it is a study for a more finished painting to come. Measuring 12" by 16", it should be easy to find a (common, "standard size") suitable frame. Condition is good save for a stubbed, worn corner at upper extreme right, as shown.

Oil or acrylic on canvas, unframed, 10" by 14", unsigned, the work painted in a harmonious and quite modern mix of varying shades of purples and greens, topped with white drips, the result a pleasing work that would look great in a contemporary or mid century setting. You would not necessarily have to frame this before hanging it on the wall. Condition is excellent.

PAIR of oil on canvas paintings, each 6 3/4" by 6 3/4" as framed, both signed "Verne", the subjects both still lifes of flowers in table top vessels. These are works by one GLADYS MARIE BAXTER DUCKWORTH (1904-1981). Often the works are erroneously misattributed by online sellers as being by a "Verne Lucinda McCann Gillespie", but Edan Hughes in his dictionary of artists in California has set the record straight...

Oil on canvas impressionist painting of flowers in a vase on a tabletop with porcelain tea set, a window at left providing a view to a more distant landscape beyond, 24 1/2" by 20 1/2" in narrow wood frame. The painting is signed at lower right and dated 4/80 (April 1980) by Southern California artist JAMES DE LOYE (1949-). A website describes the artist and his background and provides images of a number of reproductions of his work...

A primitive, circa 1880's oil on gray board landscape painting in the Hudson River style, with trees, water, and tiny figures completing the view. Measurements are 18 3/4" by 24 1/2", unframed. There is no signature. The board is slightly warped from old moisture exposure, which caused paint instability/flaking/losses at top couple of inches, as shown, and cracking at lower right. There are also a few light abrasions as shown.

Old horizontal format landscape, oil on board, featuring trees, a creek or lake, the only sign of man a picket fence near the group of trees at center, signed at lower left "Ferguson". The painting likely dates to about 1925 or 1930. Measurements are 14 1/2" by 25" (19" by 32 1/2" in frame that dates to about 1965). There is stable authentically old "alligatoring" of the paint (a crackling pattern related to how quickly the paint dried)...

An oil on canvas painting of white flowers in a glass vase on a table top, two small porcelain vessels nearby, the work signed at lower right by artist Minerva Smithers. On the stretcher in pencil is written "Matilija Poppy" and then the artist again wrote her name in longhand. A google search shows a Minerva Smithers born in 1877 in Wisconsin, the woman's residence given in the 1940 census as Hawthorne, in Southern California (very near where this was found)...

A small tight little contemporary acrylic or oil on canvas painting for that small wall, 7 7/8" by 7 7/8", unframed, with reverse dedication "For Shell Sam and Mina", and signed there on stretcher by artist Warren Boothby. Condition is excellent. Found in the Pacific Northwest; the style resembles that of the influential, famed artist associated with that area, Mark Tobey.

Acrylic on canvas contemporary painting of palms, depicted in yellow, pinkish-red and greenish-blue against an electric blue background, 18" by 24", unframed, signed at lower right by the artist, Shannon Casey. This is a nicely decorative, breezy work that will surely add a touch of the tropics to your interior. There are a very few minor spots of soiling or abrasion that hardly detract from the overall effect.

Oil on board, (ONE OF TWO BY THE ARTIST IN MY SHOP), 4" by 7 1/2" inside the mat (7 1/2" by 11 1/4" as framed) signed at lower left in green "Six" and dated there "32", the subject the iconic saguaro cactus of the southwestern American desert at sunset. Because that species of cactus grows naturally only in Arizona, we can assume that this is indeed an Arizona scene...
