An American watercolor titled “ The Henry B Hyde Entering The Golden Gate” Watercolor 20” x 24”

One of three works in my shop by the same artist, F. KENWOOD GILES of Bermuda, is this watercolor on paper painting, 14" by 19 1/2" inside the mat, 20 1/2" by 26 1/2" as framed, the subject a pink-walled, white-roofed island home on a lovely piece of property, flowering oleander shrubs and a few pines or cedars completing the happy scene. The paintings are not dated, but I believe that they would have been created in the 1950's...

Watercolor on paper landscape of lush green mountains of Kauai, a mother and her child, palm trees and an historical one story building, the Waoli Social Hall, originally built in 1841 during whaling days as a mission church, the painting measuring 18 1/2" by 25" inside the present mat (presently unframed), signed at lower right "D Williams". The work is not dated but I would guess it would have been created around the late 1960's or early 1970's...

Watercolor on paper drawing of a homey mid 19th century interior in America or England, measuring 9 1/8" by 11 5/8" as simply framed, the work signed "Sketch/Walter Richards" at lower right in white. This was probably preliminary art for a more finished drawing or painting by this well known freelance illustrator. The drawing contains a lot of detail for its modest size: five figures are about to eat soup from a cauldron at midday...

Delarue was born in Paris and studied at the Grand Chaumiere, including some time with Yves Brayer. His work was promoted widely at mid century, with gallery exhibitions in New York and San Francisco...

I can’t identify the place, though the brownstone is vaguely similar to the Villard Houses. James Penney (American 1910-1982) was a painter in oils, watercolor and a muralist with numerous exhibition records and works in museums and public buildings. He also taught art. He attended the Art Students League in New York in the 1930’s...

Wine Bottle and Onions, water color on paper 13 1/2" x 10 1/2" Emil Carlsen was especially noted for his still lives of humble everyday objects in the tradition of 17th-century Dutch painters. He perceived art as pure aesthetics with its only language being color, masses, and rhythms of line. Carlsen was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, on October 19, 1848, and not as widely assumed in 1853. He studied architecture at the Danish Royal Academy before immigrating to Chicago at age 19...

A large, impressive watercolor of the American Southwest, featuring a temporary water course in the otherwise arid classic landscape (as one would see a flash flood after a sudden summer monsoon cloudburst) with reddish butte at center. The work is signed at lower right "R. Rucker" and dated there 1997. Measurements are 20 1/2" by 27 3/4" (31 1/2" by 38" in white laminate style frame). On reverse slip of paper, perhaps by the artist, is written "A River Runs Through It" (!!!)...

Circa 1900 watercolor of the heart of Venice, Italy, including the familiar sights of canal and gondola, St. Mark's Basilica church and the famous clock tower on the Piazza San Marco, signed at lower left "E.K. Coomber". This work measures 12" by 6 1/4" inside the mat and 18 1/2" by 12" framed. The artist though apparently unknown was talented and a master of the watercolor medium...

A vintage watercolor of two girls seated on rocks at the seashore, signed at lower left by artist Frank Lockwood and dated there 1945. The piece measures " by " and " by " as framed. All photos were taken through the detail-dulling non-glare glass that was popular in the sixties and seventies. I see a listing for a Frank Lockwood as photographer but no convincing listing for a painter by that name.

Terauchi was born December 9,1891. In 1910 he entered the private school Kiyoteru Kuroda, and later became a member of the Hakuda Association. His name is often misread as Tanauchi or Tarauchi, and his body of work is confused with that ...
