A Fine Painting from the Noted Tucson Artist, Marylka Modjeska (1893-1966). Modjeska studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, in Provincetown, MA, at the Art Student League in New York and the Academie Julian in Paris. This Painting measures about 23 1/2" by 20" in its frame of about 28" by 24".

Original oil painting on canvas by Edgar Yaeger (USA, 1904-1997), signed and dated 1984 l.r. Also bearing gallery label from the Cincinnati Art Galleries stating the title of the work ("The Overlook"). Yaeger's work has been shown in such venues as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Detroit Institute of Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the AIC, PAFA, etc. One of two works by this artist currently available.

Original gouache with three dimensional effects on paper by Jean Signovert (France, 1919-1981). Circa 1960. Identified verso. In excellent condition. 11 1/2" by 9" painting alone, 21" by 18" framed. Jean Signovert was an important French abstract Expressionist.

Portrait of a woman by French artist Jean-Jacques Henner (1829-1905). Board: 9.25"L x 12.9"H framed 18.5" L x 14.75" w. Henner entered the École des Beaux-Arts and won the Prix de Rome in 1858. He exhibited paintings in the Salon, many now in the Musée d'Orsay. In 1889, he became commander of the Legion of Honour and succeeded Cabanel in the Institut de France. In 1900, he won a Grand Prix for painting at the Paris Exposition Universelle. Excellent condition minor age wear.

While we have yet to identify the artist or the subject, we would contend that the work is first rate considering the mood captured by the painter. The man exudes a somewhat austere aristocratic brood, yet exudes the strengths of youth and ambition, a man ready to make his place in the world. A miniature painting of a lovely young woman attired in a double strand coral necklace and a blue gown with puffy sleeves and a pink flower at the waist sash. Excellent condition with no issues, and in a period black wood frame. Sight size is 3 1/2" by 2 7/8", and the framed size is 5 5/8" by 4 1/2".
