This is a mid-century work, I would guess, by a woman artist who was known for still life and landscape works, primarily in the etching medium. A Fine Etching from the Early Texas Artist, Clara Caffrey Pancoast (1872-1959). Pancoast was a student of Jose Arpa and taught at the Art Colony in Alpine. Matt opening measures about 4 3/8" by 6 3/8", overall frame about 8 1/8" by 10 3/4".

An example of the etching originally dating to 1891, "Sitzender Mannlicher Akt" (Sitting Nude Man), by famous German artist KATHE KOLLWITZ (1867-1945). The sheet measures 7" by 6" inside the mat, 16" by 15" as framed. This is a circa 1946-48 posthumous edition on cream wove paper, with the A.V.D. Becke blind stamp from Berlin Halensee impressed at lower right (which I have tried my best to photograph). Kollwitz was born in Konigsberg in the old East Prussia...

Hermine David, French, 1886-1971, Drypoint etching, "Le Zoo de Vincennes", image size 8 7/8 x 6 1/2 inches, 1946, pencil signed and numbered 51/110, published by the Société des Peintres-Graveurs Français.

For the alum of the University of California at Berkeley, a fine etching of the year 1947, titled "Campanile, U.C." at lower left margin and pencil signed at lower right by listed California artist ALEXANDER (ALEC) STERN (1904-1994), the subject the iconic Campanile bell tower on the campus of the University of California at Berkeley. Etching on paper, 11 3/4" by 13 1/2" as simply framed, the scene silhouetted ships in the harbor, the rising sun and new day ahead suggested by etched lines in the sky, pencil titled at margin "Dawn Portland Harbor" and signed at lower right and dated there 1915. The artist, Massachusetts-born PHILIP LITTLE (1857-1942) was a highly regarded impressionist American painter and etcher, an artist who had a truly American vision as he was not educated in Europe...

Plate signed etching, 13" by 10 1/4" inside the mat, the sheet 16" by 13 3/4", titled "Rue de la Glaciere", 1937, by the famous and important French modern artist MAURICE de VLAMINCK (1876-1958). The original edition is given as 400 or 500 examples; later restrikes might exist. I do not know if this might be one of them. The paper is very thin and delicate and appears ribbed as would laid style paper. I do not see any watermarks...

This is a pencil signed etching, 6 1/2" by 5" inside the overmat, (12 1/2" by 10 1/2" as framed), not titled, but depicting waterfront shacks and piers with a working boat in an industrial area, by noted San Francisco Bay area artist HERBERT IMRIE (1885-1976). Imrie, born in Napa and deceased in Marin County, was for many years associated with the Berkeley area. Exhibited in the 1939 Golden Gate exposition, he was president of the California Society of Etchers...

By the German woman artist Meta Pluckebaum (1876-1945) is this **HAND SIGNED IN PENCIL** etching of two Scottish Terriers, the sheet measuring 5 1/2" by 8 1/4" inside the old mat. At lower left the artist has titled this "Zwei Rowdies". Pluckebaum was born in Germany and studied with Hermann Emil Pohle.
