Offered together as a matched pair (and see ANOTHER example of this artist's printmaking in my shop), these are etchings on paper, identically framed, each 11" by 8" inside the mat, 20" by 15" framed. Each print is signed at lower right in pencil by well known New Orleans artist EUGENE F. LOVING (1908-1971). Both prints are titled at lower left, one "Pirates Alley/Old New Orleans", the other "Maison Seignouret Court/Old New Orleans; and each bears the artist's notation "Ed/200"...

The piece measuring 38 1/2" by 20 1/2" is very clean and fresh. Graham was born in Mexico City where as a youngster he was exposed to the great mural art of Mexico. An enhanced, dramatic color Cibachrome print photograph, hand titled "Cairo Cityscape Egypt 1979", also hand signed in the same silvery ink by the photographer, LYDIA CLARKE HESTON and numbered at lower center mat 10 of 20 examples. HESTON (1923-2018) was for 64 years the wife of the famous American actor, but was an independent woman who carved her own path despite being in the shadow of one of America's most famous faces of the 20th century...

The print (8 1/2" by 9 3/4" inside the mat, 15" by 20" as framed) is a very detailed etching typical of the meticulous style of the artist, renowned for his prolific printmaking. Popular and rare images by the artist, of New York City scenes, can sell for five figures. He traveled widely in Europe and architecture, especially Gothic architecture, especially revered by the artist, was a favored subject. The famous large folio size Currier and Ives lithograph of 1864, "Winter in the Country" (sometimes referred to by its subtitle, "Getting Ice") is a very desirable image, and the original printing is very rare, highly coveted by collectors, and in 2002 with the late George Cohenour of Pennsylvania, Currier expert and publisher of a widely used price guide, that print is likely the most rare in the entire Currier and Ives production history...

The publisher is given at far right margin as G. W. Breughel, and this was printed in Holland. Measurements are an unusual 8 3/4" by 41" in the narrow black metal frame (presently no glass). Lithograph on paper, 17" by 23" inside the mat, 24 1/2" by 30 1/2" as framed, signed in pencil at lower right and "Epreuve d'artiste" written in pencil at lower left, by important 20th century Spanish artist EMILIO GRAU-SALA (1911-1975). This is an example of the accomplished lithography of this major European artist, the paintings of whom command well into five figures at auctions in Europe and the USA...

This print Z-446B was one of a small number of creations that he put on hard, gold-edged board. Daniel Tretiak wrote that these prints “were printed first on very thin paper, which was then ‘wrapped’ around heavy shikishi board. They are lithographs not done from wood blocks. Done in 1999, this work measures 7.25in x 8.25in, is in excellent condition, and one of an edition of 77.
