Haku Maki did many prints some with interesting backgrounds some not. This modest run of rather large pints had a special black background: it is the texture of old leather.
. Maki created and used this technique only in 1981 prints and mainly in persimmons. The persimmons are plump and meaty the green leaves of the fruit are nicely proportioned. Maki did only a few twin persimmon prints and none after 1980 except this one. 81-10 is in frame 2...
Original oversize deep etching on zinc by Wendell H. Black (American, 1919-1972), one of the last plates Black worked on before his death. Titled and numbered 7/25 l.l. Signed and dated l.r. 23 1/2" by 35". In excellent original condition. From the first edition of this work, posthumously printed by Berkley Chappell.
Original print in black and white, described on paperwork affixed to the backing as a Heliogravure, 10 1/4" by 8 3/4" inside the mat (26" by 22" as framed), not signed or numbered. The popular and familiar image is "Gabrielle et Jean" (after the famous painting of Renoir's wife and son). Heliogravure is described as one of the very earliest photographic etching processes. Apparently in 1919 at the artist's death, heliogravures were made of many of his popular paintings...
Original Japanese woodblock triptych by Utagawa Kunisada (Toyokuni III) of a Kabuki subject, circa 1852. This work is signed Toyokuni ga and depicts the actors Iwai Kumesaburo III, Ichikawa Saruzo I, and Ichikawa Danjuro VIII in the play: Jiraiya Goketsu Monogatari. 3 oban panels, in beautiful color and condition, never framed.
This is a lithograph, titled "Heure Matinale", 19 3/4" by 25 3/4", unframed, signed in pencil at lower right by the artist and dated there "61", with "epreuve d'artiste" notation, by the noted CoBra artist GUILLAUME CORNELIS VAN BEVERLOO, best known by the pseudonym "CORNEILLE" (the French word for "crow"). The regular edition of this print appears to have been of 120 examples, on BFK Rives paper (and this has those watermarks)...

A Dutch 17th century etching of a standing horse near a humble abode, 6 3/4" by 7 3/4" (14" by 15 1/2" in 20th century appropriate black frame), unsigned, and with no initials or other indication as to authorship. The work bears old pencil notations on the reverse side of the mat; there appear to be names of potential artists that were pondered by a previous observer in my position (including, it appears, question marks to himself)...
