This long blue print is number 91 of an edition of 154 and measures 29 in. x 14 in.

Rare pencil signed and numbered lithograph by American and Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling (1900-67). This depiction of Fiesta Mexicana was printed in 1931 from the original drawing for Spratling's 1932 book LITTLE MEXICO. Signed Spratling in the lower left and numbered 11/35. Litho measures 11 1/2" X 7". Measurements with matting - 12 1/2" X 11 1/2". The piece is not framed. Beautiful original condition...

This Maki Big Red has the Kanji (Chinese character) for Flower as its theme. The Flower is red and strong; it is set off by a black Sun to the right. A blue tear balances the sun on the left. Maki’s seal in red ink paste, is below the tear, also at the left. Although Maki himself printed this image, the ink looks as if it was layered on by hand. This is 133/154; Print size is about 11” x 18”. We note: the paper in this print is smooth, it does not have the moon-surface effect...

Haku Maki was a Japanese print master of the late 20th century. His prints at the time this one was published were strong on the use of kanji and abstract designs, as shown here. In this case; the design is abstract, it shows archaic images which we are trying to understand. The print is large, well designed and carried off. Haku Maki did these huge prints from 1970 to 1973. This is Poem Reconciliation done in 1970. It is a big image; it boldly flows across the paper. It is clean not busy, dramatic and elegant. It is from an edition of 50. I have only ever seen this one number of the edition. It has a dazzling yellow sun and sharp red tear that balance the kanji in the center. It is signed and chopped and re-signed in black ink next to the chop. Everything clicks. It is 35in x 35in.
