From our African Collection: A Kenyan Woman Figure from East Africa, circa 1980

Beautiful gilded bronze sculpture by master artist Charles Paillet, “two German Shepherds”. The work is signed “Ch. Paillet Médaille d’or” on the base. Charles Paillet (1871-1937) studied sculpture with Georges Gardet. From 1897 to 1921 he regularly exhibited at the Salon in Paris. His bronzes, mainly animals, are made by the foundries of the Thiébaut brothers and the famous Barbedienne foundry...

Alexander Ney Russian American contemporary sculptor "Running Tiger" mid 1970s incised brown clay with a holes under side for mounting to a base, base not included. The artist initialed this piece "N 5" in his usual incised way. Size l nearly 5" by 2.5" high. This is from a very rare group of early miniature pieces most all were initialed in this way...

African Lega Bone Figure from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, circa 1940. Measures 12" tall. The Lega peoples live on the southeastern edge of the central African rainforests of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. From the mid to late 1800s, the Lega and adjacent peoples were raided for the Indian Ocean trade in slaves and ivory. In 1885, the Lega were brought into the Congo Free State, which became the Belgian Congo in 1908...

Delicately and intricately crafted antique figure of a young aristocrat, proudly standing with both hands in the vest's pocket, signed "Buder", 12 inches in height including marble base.
