A very rare historically important documentary bamboo brush or pen pot drawn in ink signed 'Juli (July in Dutch) 1943' in the Tjihapit Internment Camp for Dutch Women and Children in the Japanese Occupied Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia).
The "cartoon" style drawings are curiously romanticised - I speculate, either to escape from the well documented brutal reality of camp conditions or it may have been produced, for propaganda purposes, under pressure from their concentration camp commanders...
A scarce antique American, late 19th century, a heavy short sword made especially for the September 1892 production of '1492' that opened the Park Theatre in Boston, presented by the company 'Rice's Surprise Party.' A stunning and rare KHANJAR PERSIAN DAGGER, double-edged sharp curved blade of watered WOOTZ STEEL with medial ridge and keened point. The forte is chiseled in low relief on each side. The gilded steel hilt and scabbard are masterfully engraved with foliage and cartouches depicting human figures and various animals. Very rare and in good overall condition.
