A fabulous dark royal blue Nagoya obi with painting of men crossing a bridge. Screen printed with some hand painting, the figures are drawn in a modern art deco style. Early Showa. The obi measures 38” to the fold and 12” wide. The main scene measures 10” high x 12” wide. The smaller scene on the folded area measures 13” x 6” and is repeated on the back side. There are some minor age spots on one of these scenes, other wise obi is in very good condition...

Man's silk juban (under kimono) with shibori design whose motif is shogi-no-koma (pieces of Japanese chess) with Chinese characters. It also has hand-painting with gold. In excellent condition. The first half of the 20th century. W:134cm L:131cm

Elegant Japanese Cotton Jacket with sashiko hand stitches, slits on the sides, new condition. The small stitches go through from the front to back or back to front. The stitches on the front were sewn right along the stripes that they do not show up much but it gave a nice, gentle texture to the front. Dimensions: 37" wide x 39" long

Hand-woven silk sakiori obi (sash) whose weft is bunch of mixed color of silk yarn and warp is black cotton yarn. Generally sakiori is hand-woven of recycled strips from old cloth for wefts , however, we call the one also sakiori, whose wefts are bunch of yarns. In excellent condition. Beautiful Japanese child's kimono, made of orange silk woven with a subtle waves pattern and decorated all over with printed scenes of chrysanthemums, peonies, cherry blossoms and fans, details printed in gold and silver, large chrysanthemums on the back with embroidered details in gold and silver thread, pink and white chirimen silk ties. Size: 36" wide x 34" high

Bashofu kimono hand-woven of banana fiber for both wefts and warps. The yarn is rather thicker and tougher comparing with very fine yarn for thinner and higher quality bashofu, so that it is for a everyday kimono or work wear. Brown stripes are also banana fibers. Late 19th to early 20th century. In good condition except for a mending near the lower side in the back and wear near neck. 104cm x 115cm

Silk Meisen unlined kimono with geometric pattern. Double kasuri (wefts and warps) is dyed with stencil-resist-dye (Heiyo-kasuri). Mid 20th century. In excellent condition. 126cm x 148cm

Japanese cotton obi from mid to late Showa period, 1980s(?). This obi was sold from the Mitsukoshi Department Store (2 logos attached at the corner). 100 percent cotton, new condition with some color loss. 12 1/4" wide x 141" long; it weighs approx. 1.2 pounds.

This is the most formal and elaborate style of obi called maru obi. The designs run through the entire obi from one end to the other on both sides. The dimensions: 12" wide x 12'5"(161") long. The cost of making one maru obi is substantially higher than a typical obi. The design here include chrysanthemums, wild flowering plants of autumn, fans and Genji wheel that implies the presence of graceful aristocrats from the Heian period(794-1185)...

Cotton futonji with minimal shibori design whose technique is "Nui-shibori (folded and stitched). It is made in Asamai in Akita prefecture where shibori has been practiced since late 18th century and it was most prosperous in the second half of the 19th century, however it declined rapidly because of the machine spinning and chemical dye developed. The local people are trying to preserve the Asamai shibori technique now. In excellent condition. The first half of the 20th century...

Japanese extremely long banner, 66 feet long by 27 inches wide, red and white resist dyed cotton with black ink calligraphy, original red and white striped rope, Showa Period.

It is a beautiful kimono in excellent condition. The black dye changed it's color to a current black which has a tint of brown. The silk is in a super good condition. The design is the favorite design of Kakiemon, the hoo bird and the leaves of the paulownia tree. The hoo bird has been associated with the Empress in Japan and her crest is an elegantly designed paulownia leaves.

Furoshiki (wrapping cloth) with owner's name, made of asa (hemp) whose warps and wefts are hand-plied. It has 4 mending patches with same cloth as the ground. It has un-dyed cotton cloth for reinforcement in the middle and has sashiko. Used but in excellent condition. The first half of the 20th century. 132cm x 138cm

A pair of cotton tabi with sashiko and a pair of kokake. Tabi is made of hand-spun white cotton and has nice sashiko for strength. Soles are machine-woven. Kokake is also made of hand-spun cotton and dyed with vegetable indigo and has fine sashiko for also strength. Kokake has no soles and it is worn over zori (Japanese sandals) for warmth and waterproof in winter. Both are in excellent condition. The first half of the 20th century. Beautiful thick Kasuri cloth almost in new condition. Hand sewn with four panels, little cotton stuffing on reverse side. Dimensions: 51 inches x 62 inches

Bashofu kimono hand-woven of ito-basho, which is a family of banana tree. Both wefts and warps are hand-plied. The brown warp kasuri yarns are dyed with extract liquid from tree or root of "sharinbai", which is a family of rose, and the very dark blue weft kasuri yarns are dyed with Ryuku-ai, vegetable indigo in Okinawa. Bashofu has been woven in many Islands in Okinawa for everyday kimono or work wear. 20th century. It has some stains and holes. W:106cm, L:116cm

Old Japanese Tsumugi fabric, silk pongee with a dragon design, 14 1/2" x 110". There is a 4 1/2" cut half way (location of the cut is 55" from one end), damage on the edge (runs on 30" from one end) is shown in photos #1, 9, #10.
