Japanese mid 20th century cylindrical shaped bamboo flower basket by basket master, TANABE CHIKUUNSAI II. TANABE CHIKUUNSAI II, from the Osaka area, lived from 1910 to 1999. This basket is signed by the artist and comes with TOMOBAKO, its original wooden artist signed storage box. Also comes with original TOMOGIRE or artist stamped wrapping cloth and OTOSHI, or bamboo water holder. The basket measures 14" tall, 6 7/8" wide and 6 1/2" deep.

This traditional saki (sake)container was probably brought over by a veteran from WWll. The sisal wrap covering protects the stoneware "keg". There is a filling port with cork plug on the top and a 2nd port for pouring low on one side. The sisal covering has painted kenji and graphics on one side...which is somewhat discolored from years of sitting on a shelf...approximately 8x8x8 inches...

Japanese Dragon decorated Lacquer and crushed Egg shell inlaid Document Box, 2 7/8" high, 11 3/4" wide 4" deep, with copper color metal hinges, lock box with key hole in front. Urushi-e is a style of Japanese art in which colored lacquers are used, along with mica and metal elements as accents. This piece depicts Mount Fuji, raised against a deep blue background, with etched rock formations in bright gold and orange lacquer at its peak, fading to brown lacquer with silver mica-powder mists floating around it...

Japanese print titled "Then Zen" by artist Clifton Karhu (1927-2007) depicting the Laughing Buddha Bodai within an ensō, a Zen Buddhist symbol representing enlightenment as well as the simplicity and elegance of Japanese aesthetics. Bodai sits cross-legged and balances a red sake bowl on his head. The words "nip, sip, dip", "swish", and "then zen" are stylistically written outside of the ensō. Red signature marks and large Japanese characters at written on the right side of the print...

Woodblock print by artist Ted Colyer, born 1947 in Nova Scotia, Canada. He graduated Fine Arts at Mt. Allison University and studied in Japan to perfect his woodblock techniques, where he remained for 17 years before returning to Canada. Japanese black lacquered paper mache box for storing tea. Holding a teapot, the figure's face and hands appear to be bone or ivory. Measures 5.5" x 2.75".

This tea set was brought back by American missionary who was in China 1920-1948...She was repatriated to the US immediately after WW2 and returned by way of Japan. Considering condition of Japan when she was there, set was probably made sometime before WW2. The 4 piece set was probably used to accompany hina doll display The Habachi has separate lid, food bowl, cup/saucer, netsume has removable top, each piece hand turned wood...

Woodblock print by Japanese sōsaku-hanga artist Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) titled "Irozaki Morning". It shows the beautiful Cape Irozaki, done with soft pastels in the sky as the sun rises in the distance. Waves crash upon the rocks in the foreground, and three ships can be seen leaving port. The mask has long earlobes, typical of a holy being in Buddhism, green lacquered hair pulled into two buns, and golden lacquer skin with traces of black lacquer. Early 20th century. Large Japanese Gigaku demon mask, covered with silver, gold, and bronze lacquer. The colors gold is associated with the underworld, especially when apparent in a demon's eyes.
