This is a 19th century, excellently hand-carved Kyoto School styled netsuke of a seated dog, in a protective posture, with its young puppy right in front of it. Delightful expression on their faces. Outstanding detail, Excellent form, wonderful hair work. Double inlaid eyes. Very nice two-tone patina. The spaces between the right and hind leg of the dog serve as natural himotoshi. Netsuke measures 0.70 inches (1.8cm) wide, 1.34 inches (3.4cm) long, and 1.72 inches (4.4cm) tall. Signed. It is in excellent condition, as shown in the posted photos.

This is a finely hand carved, 19th Century Wood Netsuke depicting Ikkaku Sennin (the Single Horn Sage) carrying on his back the beautiful Lady Sendaramo. According to Legend, Ikkaku is an inmortal who could no resist the sight of women on the earth, and he was punished by the loss of his power. He fell in love and married the beautiful Lady Sendaramo, with whom the Sennin is often depicted, carrying her home on his back. Wonderful carving with very fine details. Unsigned. It measures 0.87 inches (2.2cm) wide, and 2.30 inches (5.8cm) tall. It is in excellent condition, as shown in the posted photos.

This is a finely carved and lacquered wood Ojime in the form of a Daruma Toy or "Okiagari Koboshi", meaning the little priest that gets up. The center cord hole or himotoshi are lined with shakudo or copper and gold alloy. Signed Hoshin in the back of the Daruma. Ojime measures 0.63 inches (1.6cm) in diameter, and 0.80 inches (2.0cm) tall. It is in excellent condition as may be seen in the posted photos.

The center cord hole or himotoshi are lined with shakudo or copper and gold alloy. It is not signed, but is attributed to Hozan, a netsuke-shi who worked in wood with metals and lacquer accents in Early 19th century. He was a pupil of Hojitsu. Ojime measures 0.66 inches (1.6cm) in diameter, and 0.74 inches (1.8cm) tall. It is in excellent condition as may be seen in the posted photos.

This is an Early 19th century excellently hand-carved Netsuke depicting a standing Scholar who is holding a scepter on his right hand. By his side, there is a Karako who is looking up to the scholar and holding a Jar. Intricate detail and rich patina. Signed Genyosai (Minkoku) on an oval reserve on the scholar's back. Netsuke measures 0,76 inches (2.0cm) wide, and 1.90 inches (4.8cm) tall.

This is an exceptional Family Rose Enameled Porcelain Snuff Bottle of rounded rectangular form, tapering toward the base, with flared neck, decorated with a spectacular center Lotus blossom, with scrolling lotus buds and vines, set atop an aquamarine background. The underside bearing in iron red the Qianlong mark (1750 - 1850). It comes with an orange and black hardstone stopper. This is an exceptional Imperial, from the Jingdezhen Kilns, Family Rose Porcelain Snuff Bottle of circular form, with round neck, decorated on both sides in familie rose enamels with a large Katydid over a grass field, over a pure white background. The bottle rests on a raised footing. It has a four-character Daoguang seal mark in iron red and of the period. It comes with a green and black glass stopper. Early 19th Century, Green Overlay Glass Snuff Bottle This is a very fine, flattened, circular form, with a round elongated neck that is encircled by a collar of acanthus leaves, over a raised oval footing, snuff bottle. It is covered with a rich green overlay glass on snowflake glass, decorated with a fine relief carving of a clump of Bamboo on one side, and a pair of Lotus flowers on the other. The sides are flanked by masks and faux-ring handles. It comes with an orange glass stopper with a natural material spoon . The bottle is in a remarkable and excellent preserved condition, as may be seen in the posted photos. This is a finely carved Large Early 19th century Japanese Netsuke depicting Fukurokuju, one of the Seven Gods of Fortune, the God of Wealth and Longevity, holding a staff on his left hand. He has two Karakos by his side. One of them, is holding tightly to his right leg. Excellent detail and expression. Large uneven himotoshi, common of netsuke carved during the Edo period of Japan. Netsuke measures 1.46 inches (3.7cm) wide, and 3.32 inches (8.4cm) tall. Netsuke is in excellent condition, as may be seen in the posted photos.

Early 19th century, finely hand-carved Japanese boxwood netsuke of a muscular Toad that has placed itself on top of a decaying Well Bucket. Excellent form and detail on this classical representation of the subject. Nails on bucket sides are inlaid in black horn. Chimney himotoshi that starts on the bottom of the bucket, and continues through its middle handle. The very rich patina that this carving has acquired through the ages has given it a dark color tone. Signed Masanao on the bottom of the bucket. Based on the way that the characters of the signature are written, it is most likely that the carver of this piece was Shinpuken Masanao. It measures 0.98 inches (2.5cm) wide, and 1.08 inches (2.7cm) long, and 1.30 inches (3.3cm) tall. It is in outstanding preserved condition, as may be seen in the posted photos. 19th century excellently hand-carved Japanese wood netsuke depicting a Sambaso Dancer, in customary posture , standing on one leg, and garb, to include the mitrelike Okina Hat. He is carrying a Fan on his right hand. Excellent form, expression and bright colors, trademarks of Nagamichi Shuzan. It is signed Shuzan in an irregular reserve on the back of his right leg. Netsuke measures 0.92 inches (2.3cm) wide, and 2.20 inches (5.5cm) tall. This exquisite miniature sculpture is in excellent condition, as may be seen in the posted photos. This is an exceptional Famille Rose Enameled Porcelain Snuff Bottle of circular form, with flared neck, and raised recessed oval footing; decorated with scrolling lotus blossoms and vines, set atop a yellow background. The body of the porcelain under the glaze has incised engravings in a spiraling circular pattern that is barely visible. The underside bearing, in iron red, the Daoguang Mark (1821-50), the period when this bottle was made. 18th Century, Japanese finely hand-carved boxwood Netsuke depicting one of the scenes from the Ten Oxen parables; The Return on Ox-back. The character on this parable is shown playing a flute while sitting on the back of an Ox. Chimney himotoshi that starts on the bottom of the irregular platform where the Ox stands, and continues through any of the spaces made by the legs of the animal. Rich patina, lustrous surface. Unsigned. Netsuke measures 1.54 inches (3.9cm) wide, and 1.51 inches (3.8cm) tall. It is in excellent condition, as you may be able to see in the posted photos. A similar netsuke, that belong to the collection of Michael and Rebecca Hauter, is illustrated on page 88 of Hurtig's "Masterpieces of Netsuke Art"

1800's, excellently hand-carved Japanese mix-materials netsuke depicting Okame performing the Japanese custom of Mamemaki (bean scattering) during Setsubun (the day before the beginning of Spring) to cleanse away all the evil (demons) of the former year, and drive away disease-bringing evil spirits for the year to come. In the scene depicted by the netsuke, Okame is covering her face while grinning when she sees the Oni's (demons) trying to hide from the beans that she is throwing and that are landing on top of them. Wonderfully detailed version of the Oni behind her who is using his right hand to cover his head. Signed Tomochika on the bottom of the box where Okame is sitting. Netsuke measures 1.08 inches (2.7cm) wide, and 1.16 inches (3.0cm) tall. It is in outstanding preserved condition, as may be seen in the posted photos. This netsuke was made prior to 1900, during the early 19th century, in other words, sometime between 1800 and 1849.
