Very attractive bronze seated Disciple/Monk holding alms bowl in his left hand, which rests on his leg and gracefully helping himself with his right hand. This monk is the disciple Mahakasyapa who was particularly close to Buddha. In the tradition of the Zen-masters, Kassapa was the first monk to receive from the Buddha "without word or writing" the unspeakable highest truth of the Dharma.
This bronze statuette has a small hole on the left hand side of the base for placing incense sticks. Nice natural aged patina, good condition. Size: H. 8 cm. x W. 5.5 cm. x D. 4 cm. Rare piece!
