Wonderful, rich Nezumi-Shino chawan with "Sengai's Universe" design of the enigmatic Zen symbols of the circle/square/triangle showing through the iron glaze and slip as an evocative white decoration on either side of the bowl. this chawan with its classic Momoyama presence, active interior, rich glaze cells and well addressed foot is by legend and veteran Mino potter; Mizuno Takuzo (Taizo)...

Classic Showa era bowl by Ichikawa Kodo (B.1925) this gama-yohen chawan shows a wide variety of textures and colors with wonderful iridescence and copper flashes across the bowl with areas of streaking and feather patterns as well as banded lines flowing across the surface. This chawan is in great, original condition and measures 13.15 x 7.2cm and comes with its signed box...

Very fine Iga mimitsuki style hanaire by Furutani Michio with some vivid bidoro ash across the surface and rather expressive pottery marks made while the clay was still wet. I think it goes without saying that Furutani Michio was one of the most important anagama potters of the 20th century specializing in Iga and Shigaraki pottery...

This bold and impressive Oni-Shino Kannon vase is by the master potter and legendary personality; Tsukigata Nahiko (1923-2006). This rare wood fired Oni-Shino vase is a classic pot by the artist with a wide array of effects and attributes that Tsukigata is well known for which was further painted by the ferocity of the wood firing having one of the most complex surfaces by him that I have seen...

A very striking incised and wood fired vase by veteran omnibus potter; Imai Masayuki. This naturally glazed vase, hanaire, measures 9.25” X 3.75” and is in excellent condition with signed box. The surface of the vase is incised on either side with a sprig, or bouquet of flowers and is dusted by ash from the wood firing...

A very serene Yuteki temmoku chawan by the famous Taniguchi Ryozo. Taniguchi, along with Miura Shurei, Kimura Moriyasu and Morikazu and Kamada Koji are famous proponents of the "oilspot" field.

This chawan is an excellent example of Taniguchi's work and masterful control of his glazes...

Wonderful lobed chaire by Bizen veteran potter; Takahara Shoji (1941-2000). This elegant Bizen chaire has casual lobed indents around its solid form with a spontaneous incised line creating a boundary between body and shoulder. The chaire face (omote) is covered in a rich green ash showing signs of a horizontal tamadare run while the rear (ura) has sweeping effects of hi-iro capitalizing on the traditional Bizen tsuchi-aji...

Classical kohiki, powdered slip chawan by Ogawa Tetsuo (b.1937). Rich full form that makes for an exceptional chawan with a fine lip and excellent kodai with some crinkled clay peaking through the slip as if emerging from melting clay, the potters forever frozen in the base of the bowl where the pot was dipped in slip. Simple and complex at the same time.

Though subtle, there is a power to kohiki ware that is most time lost in simple illustrations...

Broad, Chinese influenced conical chawan with red and green enamel floral and circular decoration. This chawan is an early piece by enamel and Oribe artist Kuroiwa Takumi. He is widely exhibited and published for his pottery.

This chawan is in excellent condition and does not come with a box.

Well fired and purposeful wood fired chawan by Aomori potter, Imai Rikei fired in the longest kiln in Japan at over 103 meters long (as certified by the folks at Guinness Records). This chawan appears to defy gravity as all of the ash runs up the pot culminating in spots in deep, brown-green bidoro drips as the chawan was fired upside down where the bottom and foot of the bowl are covered in ash making for a satiny smooth surface...

Wonderful, classical Shino chawan in the Momoyama traditional style by the grand gentleman of Mino ceramics ; Tamaoki Yasuo. Tamaoki was heralded as one of the five great hopes of Mino by Kuroda Ryoji and he has not failed to live up to that mantle...

Wonderful yakishime Shigaraki chawan by veteran potter; Tani Seiuemon.

Large Aka-Shino mizusashi with it's original ceramic lid. This Momoyama influenced mizusashi is by Kato Yoshiaki (Jumei) who has won a number of awards and is recognized for his tea wares.

Large, robust E-Shino chawan with painted underglaze iron landscape by (Shino) Yaichiro. Prominently signed; YA. Wonderful, velvety Shino glaze surface.

A very fine and noble chawan by Hagi master potter; Kaneta Sanzaemon VII. This Hagi glazed boxed chawan measures 4.75” X 3.25” and is in excellent condition. The glaze of this chawan is a beautiful milky translucent Hagi ash glaze over a rich blue to black slip and shows a wonderful keshiki. Kaneta Sanzaemon is the father of the internationally recognized Hagi potter, Kaneta Masanao...

Small Shigaraki kake-ire hanging vase made by Uda Rakuzan. The small uzukumaru like form, intentionally deformed with the face covered in ash and charcoal effects and an incised decoration around the should of the pot. the rear has hi-iro effects and a metal hanger.

This vase is in fine condition but does not have a box. The vase measures 4.5" x 4.8".

This large and imposing Oribe mizusashi was made by long time Mino potter, Hayashi Shotaro. Thrown out of a fine Mino clay, much of the surface was cut away to create a surface of wonderful flat planes and rough areas of faceted clay which was then glaze in Hayashi's rich Oribe glaze. The surface shows a wonderful array of tonal variations with areas of deep greens and thinner areas showing almost to the buff of the clay...
