This vivid Aka-e tsubo was made by Persian blue specialist Kato kenji who is as well known for his brilliant overglaze enamels as he is for his rich temmoku and Mino tradition pottery. Lush Ki-seto vase with a wide array of effects and colorations within the glaze and vivid, gem-like bidoro style beads in the nooks and crannies of the form. Made by Hayashi Shotaro in the early 1990s, this vase is a classic form and surface for the potter with throwing marks and added potter's marks articulating the medieval form. Casually thrown and slightly altered Momoyama inspired Oni-Shino mizusashi by Kajiura Soshu (b. 1916). Showing a wide array of surface variations including a thick Shino with large areas of an iron red and the bulk of the pot covered in deposited ash from an intense wood firing where the ash and Shino have fused together a rich jade green surface prevails both inside and out of the mizusashi...

Hand carved calligraphic wood panel by Tsukigata Nahiko, the originator of Oni-Shino pottery. Measuring 79 x 36.5cm and 86.65cm at its widest, this panel has the three kanji carved in high relief, as is the signature with texture forming the surround. The kanji read to the best that I understand, "A Sliver (of the) Moon", a rather poetic sentiment. This panel is in good, original condition and is set up by the artist to hang from a securely fashioned cord for your immediate enjoyment...

This classic mizusashi has everything one could want from Karatsu; a timeless form, a perfect nuka surface and exceptional E-Garatsu style iron underglaze painting by a master potter and arguably the greatest living Karatsu artist. This pot could easily be a 17th century piece though the unmistakable mark of a master 20th century potter is ever present...

Wonderful, classical Shino chawan in the Momoyama traditional style by the grand gentleman of Mino ceramics ; Tamaoki Yasuo. Tamaoki was heralded as one of the five great hopes of Mino by Kuroda Ryoji and he has not failed to live up to that mantle...

Evocative blue decorated henko bottle vase with fluid brush decoration and sgrafitto decoration prominently signed; SEIRAN. The cobalt decoration sits on an almost ash style glaze with spots of blushed areas, similar to Hagi pottery. I have not been able to find out anything about the potter, but the brushwork and use of space suggests a full time potter, used to working in this particular style.

This henko is in perfect condition with its original signed box and measures 8" X 8.5" x 6".

Robust and rare mizusashi by veteran and highly important potter, Morino Taimei. Using two glazes, green enamel and silver overglaze this mizusashi is a classic example of Morino's work and a wonderful modern tea piece.

This mizusashi measures 20 x 16.5 cm and is in perfect condition with its original signed wood box and is clearly stamped on the base.

Randomly patterned and ethereal porcelain mizusashi by nunozome master, Uwataki Katsuji. This wonderful example of Uwataki's nunozome technique is a fine mizusashi with pastel colors floating just under the surface of the vellum glaze making for a modern Arita tea ceremony object. The decoration though randomly applied present a well conceived pattern that are highlighted by the application of gold overglaze on some of the floral designs...

This unusual Bizen chawan was made Sakauchi Ensen (b. 1922) of Okayama Prefecture and is unique even among the richly diverse styles of Bizen-yaki. Sakauchi calls this style Hishoku Nanban-yaki, secret color unglazed (nanban) pottery which is different than any other Bizen of its time or since. This chawan was fired upside down as evidenced by the rich, accumulated ash drips on the mouth and is covered in a variety of thick, colorful textured on the exterior and interior of the bowl...

A very fine ash glazed Haiyu-Shino chawan by Heian Seijiro. This ash glazed, Haiyu, boxed chawan measures 5.4” X 3.2” and is in excellent condition. The surface of the piece is very luminescent and is wonderful crazed resembling kanyu (double refractory) style celadons

Rare black and white inlay vase by Kyoto master potter, Kondo Yutaka. Measuring just shy of 25cm tall this vase is cloaked in a black textured surface with impressed, inlay decoration of stark and contrasting white across the surface...

Classical Iga vase by noted master Japanese potter; Kishimoto Kennin (b.1934). This vase, based on Momoyama and early Edo Iga archetypes, has varying hues of natural green ash about the top portion of the vase which also cascades down the side and forms wonderful bidoro rings around the mouth and shoulder. Though a thoroughly Iga pot, the clay body is actually wonderful Shigaraki clay with a healthy amount of feldspar inclusions...

Elegant Shino lugged vase by veteran potter, Ando Hidetake (b. 1938). Thrown and then paddled ovoid, this simple tea ceremony vase was made of Mino mogusa clay and once stiff, the foot was hand carved to produce a fitting oval foot to compliment the form. There are wispy traces of iron under the crisp white Shino glaze meant to insinuate grasses and stemmed flowers in an ethereal Momoyama ink painting inspired manner...

Large, bold and timeless Shino chawan is by the master potter and legendary personality; Tsukigata Nahiko (1923-2006). Created in classical and timeless style guided by his master, Arakawa Toyozo, this chawan has a strong Momoyama inspired form with an aesthetic that is among the strongest of the 20th century Mino tradition. The intentionally distorted shape fits the hand well and the lip, mikomi and kodai all act to balance out a truly inspired work by a potter of the highest level...
