Wonderful and intricate ash glazed plate by Ningen Kokuho (Juyo Mukei Bunkazai) Shimaoka Tatsuzo. This large plate, hachi, is absolutely genuine and has all of the characteristics of Shimaoka, from clay, glaze and foot (kodai). This plate measures 12.25” X 2.25. The intricate design is first hand carved and then inlaid with white slip, which is later scrapped off to reveal the pattern. Once glazed, the hachi had Shimaoka's trademark iron brushwork applied to complete the design...

Exceptional teadust style temmoku chawan by noted temmoku specialist, Kimura Moriyasu. This chawan is a very potent piece in excellent and unused condition and measures 4.75" X 2.65"...

Robust, medieval styled mizusashi by veteran Shigaraki potter; Furutani Churoku IV (b. 1922). This face of this large mizusashi is covered in a wonderful layer of green ash and the back exhibits very fine hi-iro fire color...

Pleasant crackle style chawan with Rimpa influenced design under and over the glaze. This chawan was made by veteran Kyoto native potter, Suzuki Soji who was a student of Tomimoto Kenkichi. Suzuki's chawan now days can cost 200,000 yen and more.

This chawan is in excellent condition and does not have a box.

Robust and classically medieval in origin, this Seto-Guro chawan was made by Toki Intangible Cultural property, Mizuno Takuzo. The deep black surface has a wetness to the glaze that adds to curdled surface of the chawan that gives way to the buff clay and well addressed kodai. The chawan is well animated by way of deep throwing marks made while the bowl was wet and on the wheel and then was ovalled slightly to create a pleasing form to the hand and the eye...

This noble vase with flared mouth is by Ningen Kokuho, Living National Treasure; Shimizu Uichi (1926-2004). The vase is glazed in a complex partridge feather yohen iron glaze over a wonderful and stark white stoneware clay body.

Shimizu Uichi (Un’ichi) was a pioneer in iron glazes and was best known for his various iron glazes and his kannyu crackle celadons...

This rare Ido chawan is glazed in a milky ash, Hagi style glaze and was presumably made at the kiln of the Tenryu-ji temple (Kyoto-yaki) as it bares the seal of the kiln. The clay was made using ground roof tile, a piece brought back from China which is explained in the accompanying paperwork provided with the chawan...

Rare black and white inlay vase by Kyoto master potter, Kondo Yutaka. Measuring 21.5 x 15cm this vase is cloaked in a black textured surface with impressed, inlay decoration of stark and contrasting white across the surface...

Elegant Hagi hanging vase with a variety of colors from grey-blue to creamy white and lavender by master potter; Ono Zuiho. This hanging vase is made of a rich iron clay from Kyushu with a creamy slip and ash glaze over the piece.

Ono Zuiho is considered to be one of the 20th centuries most important Hagi potters. His work was not only traditional and geared toward chadogu, tea ceremony implements, but much of his work has a modern flare to it...

Fine ash and bidoro glass cover this Hikidashi style (pulled out) Shigaraki chawan with a vivid pool of bidoro also covering the interior floor and walls of this teabowl. The signature is obscured, covered in ash, glass and charcoal. Over 95% of this chawan is covered in a coating of green glassy ash and is appealing to both the eye and hand...

This classical ,generous and inviting teabowl chawan is by legendary Hagi master potter; Yoshiga Taibi (1915-1991). The sumptuous form is highlighted with a thin ash glaze over the rich hagi clay and crackled slip with tones running from Hagi creamy pink to lavender with the gritty clay visually punctuating the foot/kodai...

Elegant and tall Hagi vase with a coating of lavender ash glaze diagonally across the body. A strong delineated collar for a mouth and two lugs on either side punctuate this vase. Though marked, I am unable to decipher the seal but my suspiscion is that the piece is by Yoshiga Taibi or Ono Zuiho...

Large, Momoyama inspired, Shino chawan by the master potter and legendary personality; Tsukigata Nahiko (1923-2006). Though it is easy to spot some influences of his master, Arakawa Toyozo, this chawan is all Tsukigata Nahiko. The vivid iron slip shows, like a shadow, under the feldspar Shino glaze with rich areas of natural green glassy ash coating the surface and iron accents about the lip and showing through the surface...
