A first edition, second issue which includes the story Brown of Calaveras. Published in 1870 by Fields Osgood & Co. Boston. Issues: gilt lettering has faded on the boards which now appear light brown; the boards also show wear and staining, predominately on the back where the ends are worn, stained and chipped; the book is slightly cocked, there are gilt initials imprinted on brown front free endpaper, and there is light foxing. Sold as is.

There are 25 pages of text in English, German, Dutch and French, 29 engraved plates of table wares,along with four engraved supplemental plates depicting tea and coffee ware shapes. The cover shows slight smudging and there is a tiny nick otherwise the pages are like new.
