For the collector of early and folky American furniture, here is a type of chair commonly referred to as a "firehouse" chair, made of wood, painted generally black but with yellow piping stripes along the top rail and seat, and on the legs. There is also a bit of worn red and gold on the spindles holding up the back.....forgive me if I don't use the correct terminology but I am generally an art seller, not a furniture specialist...

An antique Japanese Tansu chest in 3 sections called Ishodansu made of Tochi (Horse Chestnut) and Hinoki (Cypress) woods. This chest was used for Kimono and clothes storage. Original bronze hardware and wiped lacquer finish. The front has a smooth channeled frame. Behind the sliding doors of the upper section lies a small drawer to the left and a corner shelf to the right side. Center section has 3 drawers and the bottom section has 2 drawers...

Incredibly beautiful original  Vernis Martin French cabinet from the late 1800s. It has wonderful original romantic scenes adorned with brass mounts.  There are two side doors with serpentine glass, and the center glass is convex.  All glass is original, as is everything else.  It measures 74″ tall x 39″ wide x 19″ deep.  It is very good condition, commensurate with its age

A rare antique Japanese Kusuri Tansu (pharmacy or medicine chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original hand forged iron Warabite handles. Original drawer labels left intact. 20 drawers total. Great chest for filing papers and documents. Unusually wide drawers compared to the ubiquitous tiny drawers of the typical Kusuri Tansu.

An antique Chinese Hong-mu hardwood marble top side table with reticulated Chrysanthemum carvings. Cabriolet legs with carved feet. Center carved stretcher support with secondary stretcher just under the table.

Federal Mahogany swell front chest of drawers. Yellow pine and poplar secondary woods. Maryland, probably Baltimore, 1790 to 1810. This chest is similar in ways to an example in "Furniture in Maryland, 1740-1940", Weidman, 1984, item #77, page 123. On both, the top conforms to the bow front case, projecting a bit beyond the case. And both have nicely formed French feet, inlaid banding on the drawers and above the skirt, and inlaid chevrons centering the escutcheons...

It has claw feet, which, along with the apron, are decorated with green. English Satinwood octagonal shape small tall table with young girl portrait with floral design in Polychrome colors, 26" high, 13" wide-point to point, with shaped x-cross stretcher join into the tapered square legs, and painted floral and red ribbon on the side, stretcher and legs, entire table is constructed with satinwood. The condition is used, no major damages except painting area is slightly stained with age.

An antique 2 section Kimono chest (Isho Tansu) made of rare solid Kuwa (Mulberry) and Kiri (Paulwonia) woods. All original bronze and iron hardware. Two sliding doors with beautiful scrolling frame behind which lies a lift-off door, small drawer and a split level shelf with hand carved bamboo-like details. This English Georgian mahogany desk is ablaze with fine flame mahogany figured wood on its front and with solid sides. The drawers are slightly graduated, rising from a frame with bracket feet. The brass pulls have the Prince of Wales symbol.

The slanted front drops and is supported by 2 retracting arms. The desk surface is missing its felted surface which could be replaced. The fitted interior contains 6 cubby holes, 2 stacked drawers on each side, and wider drawer between...

From our European Collection, a very fine and elegant Victorian era marquetry inlaid credenza, late 19th century circa 1865-1890. This beautiful piece is dark walnut inlaid in stylized foliate strapwork design, using a softer and lighter colored wood for the inlay material that is most likely either tulipwood or fruitwood. The piece is adorned with wonderful gilt bronze castings on the columns and base area that are essentially artwork unto themselves...
