Mask of the "Nuo" esoteric theater representing the character of Bao Gong, or Judge Bao, also named "King of Inferno" because he also goes down to visit the Inferno to inquire about the souls. The mask was carved on wood on which lacquer and polychrome pigments were painted. China, mid-19th century. Height: 12 1/4" (30,5 cm). Old insect damage (no more danger), otherwise good condition.

A very finely carved hardwood ox or buffalo, surmounted by a young boy, on original stand, probably made for export during the second half of the 19th Century circa 1850-1900 . Condition - excellent - one glass eye of the boy is missing but, unusually, there is no damage at all to the sculpture and there has been no restoration. The Ox - 30cm (11.8 inches) long; 15.5cm (6 inches)high...

He is charming...well detailed leaning on a pillows ...a few nicks and bruises to the finish as to be expected at this age...roughly 4 inches tall and 6 inches wide...

This Lohan stands with his robes open and his arms crossed, a hole drilled through his hands to hold something, perhaps a staff or a candle. An intricately hand carved wooden opium den lamp in the shape of a chair. The carving on the front bottom panel is a scene with 3 people. The central character seated at a table appears to be of the scholar class. The brackets on each side have a guardian figure. Used to illuminate Chinese opium dens, lamps like this were often their only source of lighting. The lamp’s burner bowl is stoneware is most likely a replacement...

Superb museum quality carved Chinese wood brise fan with deeply worked guard sticks and finely done inner sticks carved equally to both sides of lovely scenes. Larger than most brise fans, it also still has its original hand carved presentation box fitted in silk. Made in Canton, China for the export market, the fan and box dates circa 1870-1880. Condition is wonderful to both and a must have for the collector. Fan length 9.5" x fully opened 16.5" with case being 12.5" long x 2.5" x 2.5"

A large and magnificent pair of Chinese fu lions ready to guard your home and protect you from evil spirits. The hand-carved foo dogs are solid wood and sit on platforms or separate bases that not solid. The male foo dog has a decorative ball under his left paw while the female dog has a playful pup lying on its back under her right paw. The dogs are in very good antique condition with normal wear and surface cracks expected with wood carvings of this age and size...
