This pair of ivory carvings of ladies and lotus was completed in the mid 19th century. They depict aristocratic ladies holding stylized bouquets of reeds and lotus. This figure of a guardian foo dog is of a natural rich brown unglazed ceramic with white glazed eyes, eyebrows, teeth, claws, and a line of spots on the spine. It is very well-modeled by hand with a highly expressive face and jaws. The chocolate-colored body is also offset by a black glazed mane and tail. The modeling represents an anatomically correct male. There is a loss to the tip of one ear, as well as the tip of the tail...

This late 19th century Chinese blue and white vase is 9 ¼ inches high and 4 ½ inches on the widest part. It depicts a mother lion playing with her cub. Aside from two small chips on the rim, it is in great condition.

A nicely shaped plate with floral design with bat and peach motif painted on the underside for good luck. Nyonya wares are over-glaze polychrome enamelled porcelains made in Jingdezhen in the Kiangsi province of China for the Straits Chinese, or Babas, whose female counterparts are called Nyonyas, hence the term Nyonya ware. Nyonya wares were mainly reserved for festive occasions and special functions. Size: 19.5 x 13.5cm. Condition: No repairs. Normal wear.

A Chinese round porcelain charger with robin's egg glaze, with slightly flared rim, the recessed foo with white underglaze and old stickers to show provenance. The robin's egg glaze technique requires low-firing and uses two different colors of mottled purple-blue and turquoise.

DESCRIPTION: A large Qing Dynasty artist’s calligraphy brush fashioned from wood and carved in a naturalistic design. The long black bristles are attached to a bulbous ferrule with the handle carved in a design reminiscent of bamboo leaves. This is a substantial, sturdy brush that shows usage wear and minor splitting on the handle. DIMENSIONS: 17 ¼” long (43.8 cm).
