A piece of Narumi-Kongata (also called Urumi-zome) cloth which is hand-spun cotton and dyed with vegetable indigo. Narumi-Kongata is one kind of katazome (stencil-resist-dye) imitating shibori. This wooden manju netsuke is modelled to represent a Japanese gong. Decorated with a spider and web, this piece is signed and is in excellent condition. There are no chips, cracks or restoration.
Japanese antique small ko tansu (personal chest) made all of kiri (paulownia) wood with black lacquered iron hardware. This small chest has 7 drawers of various sizes; 2 large drawers on the top portion, 2 medium drawers and 2 small drawers on the lower portion. The hardware is all made of blackened iron and includes round lock plates and square drawer pulls.

A very nice thinly potted porcelain dish. The underglaze decoration drawn by using a very nice cobalt blue shows a motive that is typical for the Chenghua period.

Condition : Actually perfect - there are 2 very minute chips to the rim but these chips are very old resp. most probably from the time when the dish was produced ( please have a look at the last 2 enlargements ) Nice " ping " tone when tapped.
Chinese 19th Century Glazed Stoneware Shipwreck Jar
Many years ago we bought a small group of jars of this type. We were told they dated to the Song Dynasty (AD 960 - 1279) and had been in storage, having several years earlier been recovered from a shipwreck off Thailand. To the base of each jar is written an inventory number (we were told around 200 of these jars were excavated but how accurate this is, we do not know)...
We have been trying since we opened 18 years ago to acquire a Kim Gyu Jin painting, but they are all either stored in museums or firmly entrenched in private collections. His works are in the collections of the world's biggest museums, including the Metropolitan Museum and the British Museum.
