Han-gappa which is a kind of jacket worn over kimono. Wefts are silk yarn and warps look cotton yarn. The collar is made of black wool which might be imported, and straps are made of wool cloth and vegetable indigo dye silk cords. In good condition except for a few moth holes in the wool collar and a rip in the shoulder. The second half of the 19th century. 129cm x 98cm

Antique Chinese late Qing Dynasty Blue and White porcelain vase in the form of Ginger Jar, of globular form, decorated with white blossoming prunus branches on a deep cobalt blue cracked-ice-pattern ground, mark on bottom with double blue rings.

CONDITION: In very good condition, no repairs, chips, or cracks.

Cotton cloth with katazome (stencil-resist-dye) and dyed with pigments, which is called "wa-sarasa", Japanese chintz. It was produced from late Edo to early Meiji period. Late 19th to early 20th century Chinese porcelain figure of a mythical beast crouching on a rock above cresting waves with its head lowered as it laps the water with its tongue. Wonderful potting, excellent face, beautiful use of turquoise and aubergine colored glazes. Great patina, compressed dust on the surface, few spots of losses to the glaze, the body stamped with 2 characters on the bottom. Height 2 11/16 inches.

19th century Chinese bronze seal with rectangular base and stele shaped finial with a hole for hanging. Nice piece with very good casting and chiseling, beautiful patina on the surface, raised knob on one side indication the orientation of the seal. Deeply carved 4 characters on the base, traces of old red seal paste in the grooves. Very pleasant to the touch, wonderful piece for scholar’s desk...

A real cute, Kawai miniature Kyusu style teapot for green tea with a side handle, made in the tradition of (Otagaki) Rengetsu yaki, from Okasaki production center, Kyoto. Chamotte with a nice craquelure glaze. Size L 10 x h 4 cm. Otagaki Rengetsu (1791–1875) was a Buddhist nun, famous for her calligraphy but also for her production of ceramics for tea appreciation which she would embellish with her poems. Meiji 1868-1912. Good condition.

Good porcelain blue and white Ming Dynasty bowl with abstract pattern of boats on water. There is one tiny flea bite chip on the rim noted in last enlargement, otherwise very good condition. D: 10.7cm/4.2in and H: 5.4cm/2.1in.

Chinese Blue and White Porcelain covered Paste Ink Box, Ca. late 1700's, 1 3/8" high, 2 1/2" diameter, underglaze dark Blue flower decoration on the grayish white color of body in the center on top of the cover, glaze hairline about 1" to 1 1/2" long but not open hairline underneath the cover inside, some surface scratches on top of the cover in the center area.

Late 18th to early 19th century glass ojime (slide bead for tightening the cord going from netsuke to inro) in ball shape with yellow, red, blue and white herringbone pattern. Beautifully made, wonderful feel of age, very pleasant patina. Diameter 0.76 Inches.

Charming and unusually small black and red lacquer vessel from Kenteng, Shan State, Burma. A very cute piece and genuinely old- circa 80 years. This piece is uncommon in that it has six feet instead of the usual four. The entire piece is covered in red lacquer with a black lacquer overcoat on the outside. There is surface craqueleur as to be expected from authentic old lacquer but no breakage in the body. D: 13.5cm/5.3in and H: 8.2cm/3.2in.

Thus what has become known as the "Hoi An Hoard" was discovered. This blue and white porcelain jar was purchased as part of that hoard...

Here is a beautiful blue and white Chinese porcelain incense stand from the 19th century. It has two marks on it - one in the glaze and one which appears to have been applied later in red. These make great flower holders or just display it for its intrinsic beauty. Minor chips to edges.
