An antique Japanese Kotansu (personal storage chest) made entirely of Kiri (Paulownia) wood. All original bronze hardware including the stylized Gumbai handles and the metal embossings symbolizing the four seasons; Maple leaves on the handles representing the Fall season, Mums representing Spring, etc. Constructed using straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails.

Pair of Famille Rose Soup Plates, the centre decorated in bright enamels with two figures in a landscape within a leaf shaped panel. The border with flowers, storks and landscapes. C1730/45. Diameter 22.7 cm.
Condition: excellent, the first with two small shallow chips to underside of rim, the second with a 0.4 cm shallow chip to underside.

Seto pottery, dated as early as the 13th century, produced around Seto city in Aichi Prefecture, Japan.
It is also considered as one of the Six Ancient Kilns of Japan.

A beautiful famille rose dish decorated with flowers and Chinese characters. Jiaqing six characters mark and of the period (1796-1821). Antique Japanese suzuri bako, or calligraphy box, made from keyaki (zelkova) hardwood with hand-forged iron hardware. The top of the box is hinged with a large, shallow compartment. The front has two small drawers with iron rings pulls. This box would have once been used for storing ink stones and other calligraphy articles.
