This marine material netsuke of a shishi dog has a wonderful aged patina. Showing inlaid horn eyes and some tight age lines, this piece is in wonderful condition with no chips, cracks or restoration.

Japanese Meiji Era bronze incense burner with playful shishi dog scenes in high relief depicted on each side. Handles have a twisted rope design. On the lid sits a Buddhist lion or shishi dog. A Bairin Yaki Suiteki water dropper in the shape of an eggplant and bowl covered in that quintessential Bairin purple and green glaze flowing into the water bowl. 19th century Japanese tobacco pipe consisting of a reed stem and 2 brass parts, the mouth one with copper and silver inlaid scholar’s hut. The top of the smoking part bears the signs of wear due to the fact that it was tapped on hard surfaces to empty the bowl. Excellent crisp work, great detailing, characteristic small bowl (Japanese used finely shredded tobacco, and usually made just 2-3 puffs), traces of tobacco residue. Wonderful old piece with pleasant signs of wear. Length 7.5 inches.
