This saucer dish, raised on a fairly narrow foot displays the “shibui” and “wabicha” aesthetics sought after by Japanese tea practitioners as well as “Mingei” collectors. The brown stoneware body was hastily brushed on the interior and underneath the dish in a rapid manner with no consideration of perfection. Chinese jade carving known as a cong, an implement dating back to Neolithic China, once used for unknown but culturally important reasons. The cong is often seen with squared outer edges carved of a taotie or beast's mask, which the inside is smoothed round with a central groove. The stone's coloring is light green with mottled brown.

A silver jam jar standing on three ball feet with handle and glass insert. Beautifully decorated with plum blossom and bird in relief. With maker's mark "SF" standing for Sing Fat, who worked in the early 20th century in Canton, a Chinese character mark and "90". Condition: few traces of usage, insert with rim frittings. Dimension: diameter: 9.8 cm, weight: 164 g.

A blossom shaped porcelain plate asymmetrically decorated with fruits, flowers and birds above bonsai scissors, in underglaze blue, white, green and gold. The base with blue auspicious character mark. Brown glazed rim. Condition: some wear to gold. Dimension: diameter 21.6 cm and 3.6 cm high.

A gourd is grown inside a carved wooden form to create a patterned body. The lid is wood with carved horn. The cricket cage is dated to late 19th century. It is 6 1/4" long and 2 3/4" wide. It is in good condition.
