Two Saga-men, Okame and Hyottoko which were sold in front of temples in Saga region in Kyoto since late Edo period (the first half of the 19th century). They were sold as charms against bad luck and evil but interrupted in early 20th century and revived in 1950s. Both are made in late 19th to early 20th century. Many layers of wastepaper are pasted on the plaster model and colored. Hyottoko-men is not finished. Okame mask has some paint came off...

From our Japanese Collection, a large and attractive pair of bamboo carvings, late Meiji - Taisho Period, depicting a continuous battle scene of fighting samurai, with some on horseback and some on foot, all well-carved and with a good patina. This pair makes a strong decorative statement. There are several age splits to the base of each piece, ranging from a half inch to an inch long, but none threaten the structural integrity...

This elaborate woman's dress bodice is from Afghanistan, formerly Baluchistan. The fabric was first elaborately embroidered with an applique of thin strands of braids. Then it was heavily decorated with coins and beads.

A very interesting ceremonial tea bowl produced by one of the oldest generational potting families in Kyoto. In excellent condition with one fine gold repair along the rim; apart from its obvious beauty, this piece is interesting as a conversation piece for its involvement of two generations of Eiraku, a Head Tea Master of Urasenke, and a former Head Priest of Daitokuji...

This is an antique Japanese 3 section Isho Kimono Tansu made of Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. Each section interlocks by way of a dual carrying handle/locking bar connection. Constructed using Japanese straight dovetail joinery and hardened wooden nails. The top section features a shelf for additional storage while the center section has three Kimono trays behind the front doors with two large drawers for additional storage in the bottom section...

Antique Japanese Shino Ware Chawan (Tea Bowl) Old Shino Pottery for Tea Ceremony Meiji period (1868-1912).
The potter signature is carved on the bottom.
Shino pottery is produced in today's Gifu prefecture since 16th century and it is distinguished by thick white glazes, red marks and the surface of small holes.

Antique Japanese ikebana basket with a large, rounded body like a vase, woven with very large strips of bamboo over smaller strips tightly woven. The handle is made with natural burly wisteria branches. Many baskets where not signed due to the individual "style" each basket had. One could view a basket and know who the artist was. Meiji Period (1868 - 1912). Size: 23" H x 12" W

This small Chinese traditional oil lamp is complete with the original hand-blown globe and cover. The base has several rows of ornate grillwork. The cover is engraved on one side with a couple. The other side has a poem. The chinese is old in both character and language and difficult to translate.

The lamp is only 5 inches tall and of higher silver content than usual for China at that time, which indicates an owner of wealth...

Used antique Chinese calligraphy inkstone in the shape of a melon, with carvings of vines and leaves at its top near the most shallow point. It comes with a hardwood box with a light reddish-brown tone and darker areas. Early 20th century. Size: 5.25" length, 4" width, 1" thickness

Chinese red clay yixing small teapot with mark at the base. 10,5cm wide.6 cm body diameter.5,5cm high. conditions : has damage at the handle and very small chipped at under the spout and the lid.

A Japanese silk oohi (Buddhist priest's ritual shoulder covering), deep salmon pink brocade silk with an overall design of overlapping fan shaped panels and snowflakes interspersed with daisies and Chinese bell flowers, etc; internal corners with Japanese symbols on a white ground. The ties and liner are green silk. Meiji period. Dimensions - 12 1/2" x 58 1/2".

Signed Kogyo with artist’s seal, fan-shaped publisher’s seal, very good impression, color and condition, remnants of attachment paper on back of four corners.

Oban yoko-e: 10 x 14 ½ in.

The saddle seat is Leather and decorated with small tuffs of wool yarn and strips of flat metal (presumed low grade silver) which are embed into the leather in an ornate geometric design.

I replaced the tie which secured the front of the seat to the metal saddle tree...the original cord was literally falling apart...Limited research indicates this saddle was from Rajastan India.

Antique Chinese pair of dark green jade vases, with dark and light flecking throughout, allover incised spiraling designs with leaves, four squared panels, each with stylized carvings of vegetation with rock formations that are transparent when viewed from the inside of the vase. Each vase comes with a lovely dark hardwood stand. Size: 7.25" height, 5.5" width
