Japanese cloisonné bottle form lidded vase on a Satsuma earthenware substrate with "kidney bean" cloisons, signed in orange-red on the base "Kinkozan." The body of the vase is decorated with opposing blue flower filled cartouches with white borders set against a black background permeated with flowers. A blue band with red and white flowers and diamond forms encircles the neck. The lid is decorated with a single flower. Meiji period (circa 1870s). 8” high. Very good overall condition...

A rare antique Vietnamese four-legged Censer from the Le dynasty. (Later Le Dynasty, Vietnamese Nha Hau Le, (1428–1788), the greatest and longest lasting dynasty of traditional Vietnam.) The white glazed ceramic censer has a cylindrical body with lappet band above molded trigrams. The vessel is raised on four zoomorphic supports. Early 19th century marine (walrus tusk) netsuke of a standing oni, its foot on rockery, leaning on a huge war club and eating a rice cake, and a puppy at his feet looking wiistfully at the same cake. Wonderful strong early carving, wonderful face, excellent depiction of its muscular arms and legs. Grainy texture of walrus tusk core can be seen at the bottom and on the back of the carving. himotoshi is formed by natural openings in the carving. Height 2.47 inches.
