Antique Japanese Lacquer arrow (ya) case. Mounted archery was the primary and most respected mode of Japanese warfare until the introduction of firearms in the 16th century. As a reflection of this, archery equipment was beautifully crafted of formed bamboo, lacquer work, and leather strapping. Decoration of blooming cherry blossoms "sakura fabuki" accented in gold lacquer.

A genuine Quangxu Porcelain Polychrome Bowl of the period (1875-1908) depicting dragons chasing the pearl. Base has Quangxu marking. Fine condition, no restorations, nor chips, cracks or hairlines.

This is a fine early Japanese Satsuma vase. It was made before 1900 and is one of the better examples I have seen from this artist.. The enamel work and relief dragon are done very well. The vase is interesting and has a lot of character. It is very heavy and in very good condition. The only real flaw is a broken horn on the dragon which is a common occurrence with these pieces. This can be fixed fairly easily and I could arrange for this small repair for the buyer. Stands 9 1/2 inches tall.

 

A free painted transitional fruit bowl in very typical mid 17th century design. Under glaze blue and white porcelain showing a flower basket. Double blue rings at the rim. Condition: Very good condition. Normal glaze frittering at the rim. Sand connected to the foot ring. Nice clear tone when tapped. No cracks or ships. One of a collection of three fantastic and rare, large Edo Period Iki masks, de-accessioned from the Musée Archéologique in Strasbourg, France during the mid-20th Century. These three are rare for their large size. They have never before been offered on the art market. The other two masks are posted on this site. Carved Poloma wood with gofun (oyster shell lacquer), glass eyes and human hair. 9 inches (23 cm) high x 8 inches (20 cm) wide.

Antique Chinese carved bamboo bitong (brushpot). Carved with scenes of mountain landscapes and bamboo groves with figures engaged in various rural activities. The rim is carved with a scrolling key motif.
