Rare early 20th century Yi or Bai minority lacquered box constructed from leather with the wall of the lid is bamboo. While there is some literature published on Yi lacquer there is nothing on the Bai. I purchased this piece in a Bai minority, weekly market in Yunnan near Dali around 2000. I assume this is now an extinct craft no longer being done because of the availability of cheap plastic items as well as the migration of artisans to better paying jobs in the city...

She has a chip to the bottle's lip that has been filed smoothly. She also has a chip at the underside of her robe, flea bite and chips at her hair, sleeves and the bottom. She has inclusions and surface wears and scratches (as seen in the photos).

A Chinese Qingbai Glazed Melon Shaped Ewer with Lion Cover. Circa, 10th-12th Century, Northern Song Dynasty.

Featuring a six-lobed melon formed body, tapering to its shoulders onto a straight cylindrical neck with a slender curved spout set opposite a looped strap handle.
