This beautiful bone weaving tool is from the central coast area of Peru. It is from the Chancay culture. 800AD-1200AD. It has a carved pelican and jaguar on the knuckle. It is 6 3/4" long and has nice polish. It is a no-brainer. I purchased it from HD Enterprises on October 12, 1989.

Superbly detailed and rather substantial vessel, made as a grinning man with his tungue between his teeth and wearing larger earrings and headdress, the spout of the vessel prodruding from the top of his head. Rather scarce piece!

This early South Coast textile incorporates a two-headed serpent motif, together with a human (or divine) being with arms raised high (sometimes referred to as "the oculate being," because of the prominent, bulging eyes.). Seated naked woman, cupping each breast in her hands, with serene facial features, large ears to the side, the striated coiffure extending down the neck. Porous basalt, intact. The breast holding posture of this female figure is seen as a symbolic fertility gesture.
