LARGE Chinese Western Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Hu Jar

This large and imposing pottery jar, of "hu" form, was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a fairly high-fired grey pottery. It has a particularly wide body with a relatively short neck that flares out into a wide mouth. There are three raised decorative bands surrounding its wide body. On opposite sides at the shoulder are moulded "taotie" mask handles...

A Song or earlier pottery or proto-porcelain ewer, the tall neck with concentric raised bands running around,the c-shaped strap handle with twin raised beads to the outside, a short spout to the other shoulder. The ewer covered in a crackled cream glaze over a grey body. Height: 25 cm Width / Diameter: 12.5 cm

Chinese Western Han Dynasty Painted Pottery Ding Tripod

This pottery tripod vessel, or "ding", was made during the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC - AD 8). It is made from a relatively highly-fired grey pottery. The body stands on three sturdy integral feet. On opposite sides at the waist are two square-cut handles. Both cover and body have been decorated with cold-painted brown and creamy-white pigments. On top of the dome-shaped cover are three equally-spaced protrusions...

A very unusual & original Han well with the "jing" design, symbol for well and two intertwined snakes for the handle. There is some iridescence at the bottom of the base of the green glaze from age. Green glaze was used to make it look like bronze. Size: H. 30.5cm W.16cm. Condition: Very small repair on the underside of the rim, otherwise in very good condition. See photo.

Found in the Philippines. These identical jars feature a translucent green Qingbai-type glaze that pools on its carved lines. Its moulded structural form is covered by a roof tiled lid.
