The only differences between this matching pair of Japanese woman's hair combs are the very slight details in the hand-painted design and the size and spacing of the tines. An Edo period incense burner of wood cut in a squash shape known as an Akoda-koro covered in black lacquer with designs of aogai-shell laid onto the surface under a solid silver dome-lid. It is 11 cm (4-1/2 inches) diameter and enclosed in modern custom wooden storage box. There are losses to the raden design revealing the underlying tonoko on which it is laid.
