Antique Japanese pair of shakudo bronze vases, with very fine inlay of mixed metal, gold, and silver, design of small birds flying through branches which bear autumn leaves and gold vines with flowers and splashes of red. Finely chased and rendered in low relief creating a natural continuous scene of birds and flowers theme.

A one of a kind huge bronze lotus temple basin with a dragon wrapped around the base and coming over the top as a water fountain. The base has bronze shishi in relief. C.1880. Japanese Meiji Era bronze incense burner with playful shishi dog scenes in high relief depicted on each side. Handles have a twisted rope design. On the lid sits a Buddhist lion or shishi dog. Remains of incense on inside lid. Featuring a beautiful chocolate red patina on outside, this koro is in excellent condition and measures 10.5 Inches high. Seal mark on bottom.

This Japanese okimono quality bronze turtle has a champleve decorated shell that opens to reveal a pipe stand. The turtle measures about 6 1/2" long x 3" wide x 2" tall and dates to the turn of the Century. The turtle has the makers' impressed seal underneath. The condition is very good with just a chip to the end of the tail and the hinge pin is missing. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

A small Japanese mimikuchi shaped vase, with spiral design, used to hold the burn incense sticks. The burner is about 3 7/8" tall x 4" in diameter and dates to the turn of the Century. The condition is excellent/perfect, and it has been polished. The asking price includes shipping within the USA.

A Japanese heavy bronze incense burner with Murashido marbled areas decorating the sides, bottom, and lid. The burner is six sided, has a lid pierced with three bats (good fortune), and a top knob in the shape of a mushroom (long life). There is a makers mark stamped on the bottom (Esteemed Hall?). The burner measures 4 1/2" tall x 3 1/2" in diameter. We cannot find any comparable bronze burners, but we believe it dates to the turn of the Century. The condition is excellent with minor wear...

A bronze foodog that was a finial on a larger bronze piece of art. The shishi is well formed with good detail, and has a beautiful patina. The dog/lion measures about 3 1/2" high x 3 1/2" long, and dates to the 19th Century or earlier. The condition is very good. The only damage is to the base where it was broken off. 19th century Japanese silver two pronged kanzashi - a hair pin - with ear pick spoon on the terminal and decoration of a sacred key and Daikoku’s magic mallet. Excellent and clever piece implying a wish of wealth to the owner, with superb quality work - see the incised wood texture of the mallet. I did not test the metal, but confident that it is silver, the sacred key is gilded. Some tarnished areas, can be cleaned if needed. Length 6 3/4 inches.

Well cast Japanese Edo period round-form bronze kagami (mirror) decorated in relief with a motif of cranes among pines. The perforated central boss, which is designed to hold a tassel, is in the form of a minogame (tortoise). Two cranes reach toward each other with their beaks to kiss the head of the tortoise. Marked "Tenka" (all under Heaven) at the lower right. This decorative motif has been attributed to the Momoyama period (16th/17th century)...

A Japanese hand forged iron tsuba. A tsuba is an important fitting on a samurai's sword to protect their hands from the blade and provide balance. This tsuba has cast motifs of a 5 petal flower and oblong hole. The tsuba is from the Myochin school (1573-1867).

Antique Japanese cast copper jizai okimono of an articulated cricket. Small, articulated metal figures of this type are called jizai okimono (literally "free decorative object"). They typically have moveable bodies, arms, legs. Each copper section of this okimono is finely cast, depicting a natural realism, a style that was prominent during the Meiji Period. All six legs, wings and both long antennas are movable. The base of the cricket is signed: Zaodo.

An exact miniature version of a Tanegashima matchlock rifle in the form of a Netsuke with a little gilt metal loop as himotoshi. The match-lock rifle was introduced by the Portuguese in 1543 and is rarely seen in Netsuke art. The rifle is iron with brass and black lacquer and gilding. In good condition with minor wear to lacquer and gilding. Provenance Norwegian private collection formerly acquired at Galerie Zacke.

It features prominently in Japanese culture, where it is widely seen as a fearsome and reckless animal,Among Japanese hunters, the boar's courage and defiance is a source of admiration, and hunters and mountain people not uncommonly name their sons after the animal. The underside of the pig has a maker's mark.
