Ink and slight color on paper, great content face with a slight smile, superb quality brushwork - see the ink washes used for banana leaves. Signed DAI SOUISHI SOKO FUDE followed by a seal in red paste. The characters for Soko can also be read as Zengzhi - I believe the painting actually depicts Shen Zengzhi (1851-1922), great Confucian scholar-poet of late Qing Dynasty...

A beautiful image of a massive swimming carp - a noble fish. Finely painted on silk with ink. The signature reads shikibuno sato yusen hironobu. Kano Hironobu(1778-1814) was active in the late Edo period. He inherited the hamacho kano family and became a court painter. In 1808, he granted an important title Hogen, which was given to extraordinary artist.

An antique pair of Japanese Fusuma doors made of Hinoki (Cypress) and Sugi (Cryptomeria) woods. Natural Urushi lacquer frame and hand painted design of Bamboo trees on one side and Pine trees with Bamboo on the opposite side. Bamboo symbolized tenacity and perseverance while the Pine tree represented a long life making these doors auspicious and full of good luck.
