A pair of sometsuke underglaze blue san kaku-gata choku, three sided cups, decorated with contrasting patterns of a pair of "Dutch" figures set against a diaper brocade ground, a scene of Chinese boys, karako, one playing with a standard, the other holding a double gourd form tokkuri, and an auspicious kara hana (literally Tang flower) inset within an arabesque of kara-kusa (Tang grasses) painted in kakiwake style.
This form of cup is rare and apparently only occurs with this pattern...

An exceptionally small Japanese tea or wine bowl and saucer, Edo period c 1710. Blood and milk iron red and gilt decoration of butterflies, flowers and swirls. Height of cup 1 ¼ " / 3.2 cm Diameter 2 ¼ "/ 5.5 cm, of saucer 3 ½ "/ 8.8 cm. Condition: repair to the saucer, the cup with a nick to the inner side of the foot rim (c.f. pics).

A Japanese Arita porcelain Kakiemon style dish, circa 1720~1750. The square dish with indented corners, the rim with a deep kuchibeni brown rim, the centre with a gobenka motif. The cavetto is decorated with flowers and grasses amongst rocks. Tiny touches of coloured enamels have been applied to the design, a style first seen in the early 18th century. Within the foot-rim can be found a six-character imitation of a Chinese Ming Chenghua reign mark ‘Daimin Seika Nensei’...
Japanese blue and white glazed Imari plate with scrolling vine motif and sho-chiku-bai (three friends of winter: plum, pine, and bamboo) motif, signed with 4 characters on back, one very minor crack near at rim otherwise great condition, Edo Period (18th century). 11 1/4" wide x 2" high.

Offered is a superbly painted pair of 18th Century Japanese porcelain cups, made by one of the Arita kilns circa 1730-80.
These cups measure about 8.3 cm wide and about 5.0 cm high; they are a bit larger than teabowls of the period on average, and may have been intended for wine or saké, or for general use. I don't think they ever had saucers. They feature gobenka decorations in the center ...
A small Imari porcelain teapot of rectangular form with an arch-shaped handle ending in a blossom. Beautifully decorated with a hare and a dragon in a cartouche between flowery motifs in iron red, green, yellow and gold, the top with auspicious longevity characters in underglaze blue. The flat base without glaze. Condition: fine, only the knob of the lid with a tiny loss. Dimension: c. 14.6 cm high, 12.5 cm long.

Offered is a fine pair of Japanese 18th Century porcelain bowls, made in Arita circa 1740 to 1780, give or take a decade. They are decorated in underglaze blue and white (sometsuke).
