This is very fine Imari Pedestal bowl. In fact one of the best ones we have come across. It has very fine workmanship and there are many symbolic characters mixed into the busy design so look close at the images. A set of 7 fluted plates decorated with various plants symbolic to Japanese culture and motifs often seen in Japanese porcelains known as Imari ware. The plates contain an inscription, kigyoukuhoutei no chin, that often is associated with a specific type of Imari ware known as Daiseiji Imari ware. The motifs, designs, and at times the inscriptions take inspiration from Chinese Qing dynasty porcelain wares. Age: 19th century. Size: height 1.25" diameter 8"

This very well made and hand painted vase is a 19th century product. It is 9 ½” high and 2 ¾” wide from the widest part. It depicts chrysanthemum and butterflies over a beige crackled body. There is a brocade pattern design on the top of the vase. The black hand-painted mark “Dai Nippon, Taizan Sei” is on the bottom. It is in great condition.

These very well painted “egg shell” quality Kutani dishes are 19th century products. They are 8 ¼” in diameter. They have ribbed rims decorated with orange, gold, pink and brown patterns and drawings. Both dishes depict geishas and their servants enjoying themselves on an outing under cherry trees. This hand painted blue and white statue of standing Hotei is a Taisho period (1912~1926) product. It is 6 ¾” high, 4” wide and 3” thick. In Japanese or Chinese culture, Hotei (Budai in Chinese) is an immortal who is always shown smiling or laughing and carrying a huge cloth bag. This porcelain Hotei is holding a wood stick in his right hand so he can carry both his huge cloth bag and a fan. His left hand is holding a round pot. His body is the only part unglazed...

Antique Japanese dramatic large incensor, multi-color glaze decorated with scenes of beautiful maidens and flowers. Meiji Period (19 century). Size: 15.5" height x 12.5" wide diameter.

A large sized Imari porcelain tripod censer decorated with motifs of peonies, wonderfully drawn karashishi or Chinese style lions, dragons,and phoenixes. Late 1800s

These bottles are decorated in underglaze cobalt blue and colored enamels with a design of various painted fans floating on an iron red enamel ground that is covered with gilt spirals. The interiors and mouthrims are clear glazed. The bases are glazed clear and the footrings are unglazed, exposing the fine white porcelain paste. They are signed Kozan (Dai Nippon Kozan Sei) in underglaze blue. Both are in very good condition...

Ao Imari (blue/green Imari) Sometsuke Kakuzara. A square blue-green Imarai Plate. ca. late 18th- early 19th C. Japan. 10.75" (27.25cm) square. Shoki Imari, using underglaze cobalt blue painting with oftentimes borrowed Chinese motifs, such as this piece, were made in the Arita kilns near the port of Imari from the 17th Century. This is also an example of fairly rare "Ao Imari," (literally "blue" Imari) with a green-blue background rather than the standard porcelain white background...

The central design of a stylized garden scene is surrounded by four peach-shaped cartouches in red, green, and gold enamels on a ground of underglaze cobalt blue plum blossoms highlighted in gold enamel. The reverse is encircled by underglaze blue chrysanthemums and a ring of enameled decoration around the foot. A spurious Chinese six-character Jiajing is written in underglaze blue on the base encircled by a single line of blue...

DESCRIPTION: A square porcelain dish by Arita, hand painted in the blue and white “Three Friends of Winter” motif. The “Three Friends of Winter” was a popular Japanese theme where pine, prunus and bamboo are grouped, said to represent perseverance, longevity and vitality, despite adversity. The raised and flared edges have repeating geometric patterns and bamboo plants are found in each corner. The plate rests on a round raised foot with blue designs on the undersides...

Japanese vase with a view of a temple near a lake within the mountainside. The way the bamboo is painted and the serene setting is seen in similar pieces done in Kutani and Kyoto wares. Japanese Satsuma vase with various scenes from different periods in Japanese history and one view with Chinese scholars or sages. The views are framed with a motif of flowers and fans.
