A good quality Antique, 19th century, Meiji Period, Japanese Kutani porcelain plate - dish, with a thick and heavy body, extremely well potted, and beautifully hand painted and enameled with peonies and birds. An unusual-shaped Kutani vase with panels of birds and landscapes on a background scrolling tendrils surrounded by a thickly applied blue-green glaze. All symbols (phoenixes, birds, chrysanthemums, etc.) are symbols of good luck, strength, and prosperity. The stamp on the bottom is a "Fuku" character which means wealth and good luck. Japanese Imari Porcelain Octagonal flared out shape Bowl, Ca. Meiji period, before 1900, 10 1/4" wide, 4 1/4" high, with Pine and floral design in rich overglaze enamel in 4 separate panels, other 4 panels have fruits with seeds in underglaze blue, all highlighted with brilliant gold throughout inside and outside the bowl. An Unusual Japanese Porcelain Kensui, late 18th Century.

A kensui is a pot in which the water is poured after rinsing a chawan during the tea ceremony. The enamelled design is unusual especially the bold use of iron-red. The base has a variation of the spiral fuku mark, used in the 1780’s. It is uncommon to find ceramics associated with the tea ceremony that can be safely dated to before the 19th century.
