Hemp bag with age, Meiji 24 (1892) and the owner's name, Sahiko (佐彦）、whose warps and wefts are hand-plied. It has very well-done mending and reinforcement stitches, and also a mending patch. It has letters "25 sheets", but it is not clear what was put in. It is from Niigata prefecture. In good condition. W:29.5cm, L:52cm

Beautiful large Japanese standing Amida Buddha, finely carved wood with red, black and gold lacquer, flowing drapery. Japanese fireman's coat from the Edo period, c. 1850. Cotton indigo dyed with sashiko stitching and freehand paste resist decoration (tsutsugaki). Design of a geisha standing in front of a red spider sitting atop its web. Flowers decorate the front and back. It measures 47" wide by 38" long.

Samurai's kaji-haori (jacket), mune-ate (breast pad) and ate (ornament in the back waist) and all pieces have Tomoe kamon (three-way family crest). The ground fabric is not sure, looks mixture of cotton and wool and the lining is cotton European print. There were many massive fires in Edo in 17th and 18th century. Edo government organized the fire prevention system by samurai and then by civilian firefighters (hikeshi) later...

19th Century, nicely hand-carved Kurogaki (Black Persimmon) wood Netsuke depicting a squatting Shishi that is placing its front paws on a Tama ‹Ê, or sacred Buddhist jewel, a symbol of Buddhist wisdom that brings light to darkness and holds the power to grant wishes. Very refined earthenware vase, from the Satsuma kilns, with polychrome enamels, presents a decoration of courtesans (bijin) and a child under a flowering tree with on one side, in the background, a cottage at the foot of a hill. At the base of the collar, the shoulder is covered with chrysanthemum flowers. A barely legible mark under the base in a red lacquer cartouche, partly covered by a collector's label, could be attributed to Fujan (?). Height: 15 cm. Period: Meiji (1868-1912) 19/20th.
