19th century bronze Japanese sword tsuba with perforated design of Shoki the demon Queller threatening a terrified oni with a sword. Nicely made, pleasant dark patina, in great condition. Height 2.96 inches.

Superb bronze scholar holding a caligrapgy brush and an undulating scroll with the character `Kotobuki` (congratulations) in faded silver. The folds of the robe and face and brush are of the highest bronze craftsmanship. Signed on the bottom "Shuro" one of the leading craftsman of the late Taisho Period C.1920. A whimsical Japanese Hirado ware porcelain fu dog holding a reticulated xi qui ball under its paw. The precious face of the dog is hand detailed with shapely nose, fangs, whiskers, and tiny carved eyes. The dog has cobalt blue enamel swirl accents to its fur.

This is a large and extremely rare Japanese Cloisonne vase. Though unsigned this vase was clearly created by Ogasawara Shuzo. As the images show this is a fabulous example of Meiji Era art. The vase measures 15 1/4 inches tall and 8 1/2 inches wide. Condition is outstanding but there is a tiny short line, of about 3/8 inch near the base.

An antique Japanese 2 section tall Kyoto Kasane Tansu (stacking chest on chest) made of Keyaki (Zelkova), Kirinoki (Paulownia) and Suginoki (Cryptomeria) woods. All iron fittings are original and hand made. Two sliding Keyaki doors the top section open to a spacious storage area behind while a hinged door on the lower section opens to two small drawers.

Straight dovetail joinery construction using hardened wooden nails. Tansu of this configuration have become rare to find in Japan...

Beautiful antique Japanese cha tansu (tea chest) made of beautiful burl keyaki (elm) wood all over with original lacquer finish. Drawers of various sizes with heavy iron hardware with hirute shaped handles, side handles and four locks. Two compartments with sliding panels. Antique Japanese kuruma tansu (wheeled storage chest) from the Northern Sendai area closer to Iwayado. The front of the chest is made with keyaki (zelkova elm) wood with lovely grain and original red-orange translucent lacquer finish. The frame is made of sugi (cryptomeria). The large, raised iron lock plate on the top drawer depicts a pair of cranes flying in clouds. The middle two drawers are held in place with a locking bar (bo) with pine tree shaped ironwork...
