Early 19th century Japanese sword knife (kozuka) handle made of sentoku (alloy consisting of copper, zinc and tin) with inlaid scene of two birds on the riverbank by rocks, grasses and a woven rattan container with stones - such bundles were used for shoring riverbanks during floods. Excellent quality mixed metals inlays, wonderful crisp work. Some indents to the narrow sides from usage, otherwise in very good condition. Length 3 13/16 inches.

Early 19th century netsuke of a buffalo on a base, its head turned back. Unusual and wonderful stylization of the creature - see its upturned snout and raised ears and horns. Beautifully carved, excellent staining, superb wear and patina, old age lines. Height 1 5/16 inches

Very unusual late 18th to early 19th century Japanese sword bronze tsuba with cloisonne decoration of a dragon and a tiger about to engage in a fight, the back with design of bamboo and flowering prunus. Wonderful pairing of the two most powerful animals, beautiful crisp work, in excellent condition. Comes in kiriwood box. Height 2.79 inches, width 2.77 inches.

This is Japanese Edo era Beautiful silk of the patchwork yosegire beni-itajime jyuban. It is comprised of four kinds of itajime-dye and eight kinds of katazome-dye and Safflower dyeing . It is all silk of the Edo era. It has a slight damage to a sleeve and a collar. However, it is in a state very good generally. I recommend it to you collection. size:145cm x 123cm (57.1" x 48.4")

This is tsutsugaki textile from the Edo period. A design of lions and peonies in the midst of silent falling snow. It's not flashy, but it looks like a fusuma painting from the Edo period. Both the indigo dye and the cotton are from the Edo period, and they have a very nice texture. There is one slight repair mark on the upper left corner. This is Shounai-Obi used in Shounai for Edo period. This is woven in cotton and Koyori. This is considerably thick. As for this, cotton is dyed with a natural indigo plant. This has slight gradation in a stripe. This has a bunch of beautiful cotton at the both ends. This has a few stains, but does not stand out. There is no damage. Size 350cm x 20.5cm (137.7 "x 8")

A rare Kotou ware vase with meticulous painting done on the surface with an image of herons and reeds on one side, and a late spring flower bouquet still life. The Koto ware was established in 1829 by Kinuya Hanbei who invited an artisan trained in producing imari wares. The kilns continued production until 1842 where the Hikone clan took over and made the kilns part of the clan. The kilns declined after the assassination of Ii Naosuke in 1860 and the last existing kiln closed in 1895...

Adorned with maki-e Aoe (hollyhock) Ka-mon on nashiji ground (also known as the Kamo Aoi as it was sacred to the Kamo shrine), family crest for prominent daimyo families including the Tokugawa and the Matsudaira during the Momoyama and Edo periods. Even the drawer pull is fashioned as an open worked shibuichi Aoe Ka-mon with the surprise of a textured, kinko (soft metal) raised backing only if you look for it...
